You know What? It's a pretty good time to be playing x wing.

I seem to have found a happy place with this game finally.

Squad building honestly feels pretty open right now.

There's boogeymen for sure....and must have upgrades that are a bit maybe overly strong still.

But I'm still seeing a wide variety out there, and honestly..i think almost any list played well can do well.

You would be incorrect, sir.

At Indianapolis regionals, there are a bunch of Kanan Fenn players. I was flying it and my last 2 games of Swiss were the mirror.

This list is insane and so is the rest of the Rebel faction. Kanan Fenn is the epitome of everything wrong with this game.

"Look guys, my 16 health super fat turret has Palp Aces tier defense, it has double mods for each of its FOUR TLT attacks, and I can boost after everything else has moved. And it's a 4 attack dice Firespray too because why not."

Agree

I feel like I can put Pure Sabacc or Countdown in a couple different lists and have a very solid chance to win against basically anything even at a competitive level. Its not easy but if thats not a sign of a reasonably healthy meta I dont know what is.

I dont feel like any of my games in practice or at tournaments recently fall completely into the auto win or auto loss category. I also dont feel like I have to run Palp or Kylo Crew or Harpoons as an Imperial player to beat the meta. Thats a really good sign.

Timewalk Assaj, Kanan+, and Reenforced Miranda+ are occasionally still a bit frustrating...but I am learning to deal with them more consistently and ill gladly take those 3 over the Lowhrick Biggs Meta and Infinite Genius Nym Meta all day every day.

Thing is, even when i faced off against those boogey men, it's not like i feel there was nothing i could do. It's more like "I could have won that if only i had....." it's a solid time to be xwinging.

Yea exactly. Timewalk Assaj especially felt sketchy the first several games I played against it...but its starting to sting a bit less as the range control and position control options begin to be easier to visualize. Kanan+ is in that same category.

Only Re-Enforced Miranda leaves me feeling hopeless from time to time but no where near the same way as it did with Red Core Biggs.

Although I guess beatable isnt a great measurement of meta health?

From a "is it fun" point of view id say Kanan+ and Miranda still arent great fun to play against on average but its basically tolerable and given what we have had to deal with in the past im ok with where we are.

It’s been the best it’s been for a very long time. I was very close to hanging up the templates before this last wave release really changed things for the better.

If I am being nit picky, I can still find issue with super tank builds (whether that is timewalk asajj or rebel builds around their ever growing plethera of defensive abilities), TLT seeming to always find a way to be a component of the latest npe, Harpoons being the fixed arc savior instead of a hypothetical “hey this fixes ALL fixed arc primaries and isn’t connected to a stupid convoluted condition” upgrade, and the ps Wars going sky high past 9 reminding everyone VI really shouldn’t exist.

But at at this point, I’m willing to look pst that as I am satisfied and enjoy about 95% of my games, which is huge.

See now that a point of view, in the same way that people see the dark souls series as fun.

Yup. Agreed with everything.

95% of the games are just plain wonderful.

the iffy 5% is bearable, but excruciatingly annoying. I wish they would nerf those Scum and Rebel high hull turrets a little.

And holy high hel, TS Genius Nym was ... the most bs I've seen hit the fan in a long time.

Feel very much the same. You can put pretty much any weird list together and give it a go.

I will say the most off putting thing for me right now is ISYTDS and playing against that list has been a displeasure every time. Extra points for lists that focus on that constant crit result.

Besides that, great.

I was on a short hiatus from the game from right about the time guns for hire was about to come out. Wasn't following the releases, news, faqs etc. Thought about selling off my collection but I checked in on the forum before I did anything and was surprised that FFG nerfed the jumpmaster and Biggs as well as what the new releases were bringing to the community. Some say harpoons are a problem but since many ships can take them build diversity is still prevalent. The other complaint is nymiranda but this seems like far less of a problem than the jumpmaster was. Overall I decided to get the new expansions and stay in it. I'm glad I did.

I definitely agree that gameplay wise, things are more open then they have been for a while and it feels great. But also on top of that, I feel the social aspect has been feeling really good lately. I went to a Regionals yesterday and had tons of fun in between rounds just talking with various fellow players, ranging from old friends, to guys I've played once or twice before, to people I met that day. It was just a jolly old time that made me really happy I got into the game.

You know, there are also people that have a fetish of having their testicles stepped on.

Now, I ain't judging...but I ain't jumping in line to be next to play that game.

the meta, especially after the vast swathe of changes FFG finally decided to implement, is something I find fairly enjoyable atm

could still use a TLT trim or two, but otherwise it's not bad

and we're nowhere near the abyssal pit of unholy bull that was wave 5

5%? More like 75% Ghost+Fenn games ;-)
And those 4 TLT shots per turn are ... not suited to my definition of a fun game.
*shrougs*
Maybe it is just me, but I enjoyed flying against TS-Genius Nym more, even when the uniformity of the same lists over and over would have been annoying too.

I'm just gonna be happy that most people around me don't play that nonsense.

But as someone who's had to beat their head against Wave8 Ghost stupidity (this was before they ruled that TLT and FCS didn't work together), Ghosts are STUPID.

I wish that ship had never been made like that. The dumb amount of upgrades and danger zones and options is just plain stupid. Never seen something so abusable, and that's even considering pre-nerf Scouts.

Hmm? The issue is not really the ghost, but Fenn. He effectively doubles the HP of the Ghost, while on top allows for PS11 boosts. Thanks to Fenn you can have 2 Focus + Evade on Kanan while removing one Focus AND both Focus and Target Lock for shots against you. The dice removal from Kanan are just the little cherry on top. Or if you don't like the the engine upgrades, you might as well go with sensor jammers and make even more out of Fenn. The Maul + Ezra combo does all the mods you ever would need for your attack rolls, so all your tokens are free to be used defensively.

The 4 TLT shots are annoying, but so are those TLT shots of 4 Y-Wings.

It's been over a year since I've played x-wing. Are T-65s, B-wings, a-wings, TIE interceptors, and the imperial slave 1 good now?

I'm playing more X-wings thanks to Flight Assist Astro, and they're doing a bit of real work. Even though they/I don't win all the time with them, I at least feel like I have a fair go at it.

That's the core of it for me. If I build a decent list and play smart I FEEL like I can pull out a win. It was tough with how oppressive other recent metas were before the last pair of FAQs.

I think the game is brilliant at the moment and we are seeing a few new players locally.

But I think TLT is warping the game again; but saying that as I've said this before TLT is annoying in multiples. 1x Fine, 2x Annoying, 3x Urgh, 4x Just kill me.

In my opinion; Just make it Unique and add this line;

"assign this ship a weapon disabled token"

Stops ghost spamming; and not something overly complicated.

For funsies? Sure, they got their strenghts. Do they measure up to tournament level? I believe you can guess the answer- though accounts of their terribleness have been overstated to varying degrees.

I've been having fun playing Objectives games.

Once regionals are done here I'm hoping to get more people in my local area to try them out.

We are going to try a League here in March. Just finished Krayt Kup and Regionals here.
