shadowrun Races

By gilbur, in Genesys

As I have seen alot of different talks on Shadowrun lately as everyone has their pros and cons about different editions. Me I would stick with 4th Edition as we had played the 4th edition a couple of years ago and so I have copies of the 4th edition books (Core books anyway). So you all have me itching to either run or play some Shadowrun again and I kind of am geting burnt on running Star Wars since I have been running my current game for about 2+ years now. So I started Looking over the Races of Shadowrun and have made up their stats and have thought of what talents to give them that fit the Shadowrun races, so any complains would be appreciated as I am usually do not run Shadowrun.

Humans: Brawn: 2 Agility: 2 Intellect: 2, Cunning: 2, Willpower: 2, Presence: 2

I am deciding of the actual stuff for Humans from Genesys would be good or maybe even a bonus Story point would be good.

Ork: Brawn: 3, Agility: 1, Intellect: 1, Cunning: 3, Willpower: 2, Presence: 2

Talent: Low-light vision: remove one setback from sight checks involving darkness

Dwarf: Brawn: 3, Agility: 1, Intellect: 2, Cunning: 2, Willpower: 3, Presence: 1

Talent: Darkvision: Remove 2 setback dice from sight checks involving darkness, Resist Pathogens/toxin: +1 boost die to resist

Elf: Brawn: 1, Agility: 3, Intellect: 2, Cunning: 1, Willpower: 2, Presence: 3

Talent: Low-light vision: Remove one setback from sight checks involving darkness.

Troll: Brawn: 4, Agility: 1, Intellect: 1, Cunning: 2, Willpower 1, Presence: 2

Talents: Darkvision: remove 2 setback dice from sight checks involving darkness, and am thinking of either enduring which allows a +1 on Soak or Defensive which gives a setback on attack rolls from Melee and ranged attack. The other idea I was thinking is a free level of Burly as I am recalling friends playing Trolls and wielding a Panther Cannon in combat.

So I guess the flaming will start especially on the Troll to make him feel like a Shadowrun Troll for the Game.

After looking over the skills for the classes could actually convert some of the stuff over to special actions characters will be able to do with some of the skills, Like Magic characters and assensing and that would open up astral combat, hackers could do special actions while hacking in the matrix and since the skill selection will be shortened quite a bit when being converted over to Genesys this still could give the feel for Shadowrun, what does everyone say to this....

I like what Genesys did with Elves, Dwarves, and Orc(k)s. Your stats for Trolls are fine and for Special Abilities I would just give them Dermal Plating +1 or 2 to Soak. Raise their wound threshold.

I don't like the way Genesys/Star Wars deal with the species. To me they must have more abilites instead the stats. If you saw the topic about adapting Warcraft or the Gnomes, you'd see I put a lot more things to any specie.

And I'd love to use what he have in Pathfinder to customize even more the species, if the player want, something like "pick A or B (or C)".

Yeah, I could do Dermal plating for the Troll, just like that I actually got responses for the races. I want the main races to feel like the races from Shadowrun.

So you would like to see a list of like 3 different talents listed that you could pick from per each race, so players have options then and maybe two of the same race could be different...

Thinks like this, yes. Not just talents, but also skills and new abilites. You got the idea. Provide options to players.

I know usually just the career are the biggest source of customization, but like it's possible to have two soldiers completely differents, it's also possible to see two very different orcs.

I appreciate this kind of customization, it's one of the biggest thing I inherited from Pathfinder .

Another thing with Trolls is their size. They should be silhouette 2. This should effect their encumbernce. Though I can’t decide what it should do to their starting xp

It's similar to Tauren in Warcraft.

I wouldn't mess with silhouette on a species. Silhouette 2 is somewhere between horse and car size. From what little I know, Trolls in Shadowrun aren't that big of a difference, and it mostly just makes it more complicated with little benefit that couldn't be covered by raising Brawn.
