Dial assembly

By End1e551, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just putting together my dials on my first core set. Can someone tell me if the female half of the plastic piece is supposed to be pushed through both cardboard holes? I can get it through the back one but have a lot of resistance on the front cardboard dial piece and don’t want to bend or break it.

Yes.

Best way to get them to close is a hammer.

I do not agree.

I put the nearly assembled dial against a flat surface such as a wall, and just push to two together.

Yes. Sometimes it is difficult to put the plastic in the hole of both pieces. More with the second.

Recommendation: the way I found to put it without breaking anything is to use a solid flat surface, then push the second piece carefully and with the nails as close to the hole as possible. Sometimes using the flat part of the other plastic instead of the nails, or another piece flat and resistant. No blows, only continuous pressure

Thanks for this, the wall trick worked! Playing my first game in 30 minutes, wish me luck! :)

Rebels or Imperials?

First Order or Resistance?

...Scum?

Luck is dependant upon your faction choice. :P

Pushing them completely flush will scratch the dial and make it difficult to apply dial upgrades

Welcome to X-wing!

I picked up this trick from another player.

Put the front cardboard piece (the one with the notch and the faction symbol) on the female plastic circle.

Press the back cardboard piece (the one with the maneuvers on it) over the tip of a pen to widen the hole slightly. Sort of like using a ring mandrel. If you do it right, the second piece of cardboard fits perfectly over the female plastic piece.

It’s imprtant to do it in that order because the notched cardboard piece is more likely to bend or tear if you try to stretch it.

Caution: Care should be exercised on this technique. A friend of mine has a very slippery A-Wing dial because of this.

I put the female piece through each of the cardboard discs, one at a time to stretch the hole slightly before assembling.

Seriously y'all.

Female piece on the back, push them together as best you can, put the rivet over a solid surface, whack the other side a couple of times with a hammer. Never have a slippy dial again.

Played 4 games, 2 as Rebels and 2 as Imperials. Won 3 out of the 4 games! Only lost the third core set mission as the Rebels. Had a great time, looking forward to getting some expansions!

Thanks for all the advice. I've ordered some of the dial upgrades. Any thoughts on those? I'm guessing I'm going to need quite a few of each to cover games with multiple ships on each side?

Each ship comes with it's own dial, so I don't recommend getting more dial upgrades than the number of ships you could field (typically no more than 4 per side, and usually only 2 or 3.)

Personally, I don't find them necessary, but plenty of people like to have one per ship they like to run a lot, so they paint each dial to match the paint-job of the ship it goes with.

I've found that pushing the female piece into the back and then removing it and fitting it into the front tends to loosen things up just enough. I then assemble the dial and push the male piece into the back on a table so things don't go crooked or break. Haven't had a failure or slippery dial in three years.

This is exactly how I do it. Works great for me.

Me too.

The dial upgrades really are upgrades. Especially for a new player, seeing all of your maneuver options at a glance is really helpful.

As others have stated: you only need as many dial upgrades as you plan to have shipsnon the board at one time. So 3 is usually enough. I sometimes fly 4 ships so I bought 2 packs but didn’t need to.

Im dying to find Imperial Dials Upgrades. They’re nowhere at the moment.
