Wookiees! (But not just Auzi)

By SpiderMana, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’m thinking of flying this in a tourney this weekend, and I’m not gonna have much time to play test it. Any major flaws/easy switches ya’ll would make? I’m working on painting my second Falcon in Auzi colors, is why.

Wookiees! (98)

•Chewbacca (59) - YT-1300
Expertise (4), Gunner (5), •Kanan Jarrus (3), •Millennium Falcon (1), Smuggling Compartment (0), Black Market Slicer Tools (1), •Experimental Interface (3)

•Wullffwarro (39) - Auzituck Gunship
Push The Limit (3), "Chopper" (0), Rey (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

Hrm. I don't like Chewbacca. While Black Market Slicer Tools are nifty, there are no stress mechanics built into your list. Meanwhile, adding Experimental Interface shuts off Expertise. Additionally, I don't see any reason to bring Kanan there. Unless you're BMST/EI, you don't have any sources of stress, so it's like you're spending 3 points for something Chewie won't use. So it looks like as much of 7 points of Chewie's build isn't going to be used most of the time. That seems like a mistake, and it'd be better to fill the points with things which you'll use every game.

Wullffwarro can make use of Kanan, to open up his dial, but he won't be able to if he's too far away from Chewbacca, or if Chewbacca dies first. I'd much rather have Kanan on the Auzituck. If you'd had two high-value crew on Wullffwarro, it isn't a terrible idea to move Kanan over to Chewie, but you've just got Chopper.

Here's what I'd do: I'd just put Engine Upgrade on Chewbacca instead of BMST. A 50% chance to toss a damage to a stressed ship isn't bad, but it's not worth as large of an investment as here. However, Boosting Chewbacca is really strong. You'll still have Expertise dice mods, and the positional advantage is great. I'd move Kanan over to Wullffwarro, skipping Chopper. There are now 2 points and a crew slot open on Chewbacca. I've seen Bistan lately. I haven't tried it, but it seems kinda dirty (h/t Mynocks). Tossing crits when you're attacking with perhaps a range 1 Expertise Chewie attack is brutal. Bistan also looks strong with Gunner. Folks will often let a damage go through to prevent a bigger, harder Gunner shot. Having Bistan means the weaker first attack will almost always include a crit.

Another option is to go with C-3PO on the Falcon, and free up a point elsewhere in the list; for me that'd be dropping the Engine Upgrade on Wullffwarro down to Vectored Thrusters. However, swapping Expertise for Predator (Chewie cooked the Porg!) is also a fine idea.

*edit* If you really want to keep BMST (if there's a local opponent who always flies the Inquisitor or something), I'd go for Countermeasures as a Modification (or just have more points for other upgrades).

C3PO is unfortunately not an option, actually, but. Yeah.

I built this for Wullf to always get his boost/Reinforce/focus if he wants it. Chopper was there primarily to ensure that, and also because he could jumpstart Wullf’s pilot ability. On half the Falcon, honestly, I was just trying to fill points.

Kanan on the Falcon is to help Chewie’s expertise more than Wullf, as well as the stress from the title (HotR, I just realized that’s not specified). But I’ll most likely swap out for engine upgrade instead of the slight possibility of using BMST. (Which, I just realized I briefly considered 2x PS1Tactician Auzi’s instead of Wullf, so that’s probably why BMST showed up at all.)

Thanks for the input!

I like your combo, but I strongly feel you can get a better loadout. This would be my suggestion:

Chewie

PTL

Evade Title

Kyle

Kanan

Rage

Inspiring Recruit x2

Experimental Interface

Bandit Squadron Pilot

Chewie has Focus/Evade/TL every turn, Wulf has "TL"/Focus/Reinforce every turn, you have a Z Blocker, and Kanan allows one of them to ditch their stress on a white.

The other option, if you don't want the Z:

Chewie as above, but also Smuggling Compartment, Countermeasures, Scavenger Crane

Wulf

Ezra

Maul

Snap Shot (or VI, or Lightning Reflexes)

This list is much more adaptable, but is, of course, one chassis short of the last one. However, it would be my choice.

I ended up going with Bitterfig’s suggestions against my roommate:

Wookiees! (100)

•Chewbacca - YT-1300
Expertise (4), Gunner (5), •Bistan (2), •Millennium Falcon (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

•Wullffwarro - Auzituck Gunship
Push The Limit (3), Rey (2), Kanan (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

That Expertise Chewie does a loooot of hurt. And Wullffwarro isnt a picnic either, so long as I fly him right.

Unfortunately my roommate is now going to be bringing that Boba/Ventress list that won a regionals or whatever. Ventress’s stress control really sucks some joy out of Chewie, and HSCP on Boba ruins Wullf’s dice mods

I don’t personally have the Rage card, so I’ve not messed around with it at all. Definitely want to try it at some point, though

Ok so if you are playing against your roommate, there’s no good reason not to proxy. Just print out your squad building list, don’t even bother getting the cards out. Saves loads of time (and $$$!).

If your roomie is bringing stress, you need to mitigate it by choosing better upgrades like predator over Expertise for example. Maybe fit inspired recruit in there somewhere, and use Chewie to block up Assaj!

1) This is for a local tourney, not just my roommate.

2) Building my lists based on what hes flying feels a bit cheap to me? I understand there’s wisdom behind it but I’d rather take that chance to become a better pilot and maybe overcome the odds.

I usually build squads with my physical cards; it’s not that we’re opposed to playing with proxy or borrowing each other’s cards, I just don’t pay much attention to stuff I don’t own.

I had a first round bye, and managed to win both my other games; lost Wullf (flew off barely, but he only had 2 Hull anyways at that point.) and 1/2 Chewie the first time, Chewie survived the second game with 1 Hull vs a mirrored Chewie (but with 3PO instead of Bistan.)

I rolled a naked 3 crits and Bistan’d the third to a crit... on his Chewie. So that was frustrating.

When Chewie fights Chewie, everyone loses.

Oh, and the first of those two games was vs my roommate, as it so happened.

I flew better overall, double-focused Wullf a few times to counter HSCP, focused Chewie a couple times expecting to be stressed by Ventress... it just worked itself out. So. Like I said, overcoming the odds ✌️

I want to paint a wookiee Falcon as well, how is it going?

The base coat was much more yellow than I expected? But once I figured that out, mixing it became fairly simple. I still haven’t figured out how to match the secondary color quite, but I haven’t had as much time to put into that yet.

As for detailing, I ended up deciding that I will never be able to paint Auzituck-like designs on it as well as I’d like, so I just decided to paint certain parts of it the secondary color when I do get that right.

I’ll plan on posting it in the painting/mods board when it’s finished. It was kindof cool at the tournament, because the final matchup was vs a Black One Poe, and his Falcon was painted to match that. So there was a sort of yin/yang thing going on there ?
