Strategies versus 4 Wookies?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

So 4 wookies and 3 wookies are becoming very popular in our stores and meta. How do people combat them.

I know harpoons, and I have tried tractor beam, but I looking for some solid idea's to break them up and take them down.

Thanks,

I heard a tale that Nymranda is a good list.....

In seriousness I have been playing with a few list variants that are heavy on the wookies and the one game I've lost (out of 8-10) was to a harpoon list that had a pair of scurrgs and Thweek. I got Thweek and about half of each scurrg, but the 2 harpoons plus TLTs did me in. I don't feel like I played it all that well and like my chances in a rematch, but the fact remains that I lost.

TIE/D is very strong against 1-agility ships. I've been flying Rainbow Ds lately: 3x Delta, each with TIE/D and TIE Mk.II for green banks, and one each with Ion Cannon, Flechette Cannon, and Tractor Beam. That's just a lot of firepower. I flew it against 3x Wookiees a few weeks ago, and another list which just had Lowhhrick in it, and they seem to pretty well wreck the Auzituck. Tactically, I'd try to come in from a side and attempt to range control, so you don't have all 3 or 4 attacking the same ship at the same time. If you can get a good approach, grab one on it's own, things are brutal.

Taking sensor jammer can really hamper their offence as it works on every attack (against quad).

Anything with slam is excellent, slam and alpha even more so, the Wookiees aren't too difficult to outmanoeuvre mid and late game.

trip scurrg alpha can mess them up really badly, three harpoons before they shoot along with the splash isn't something they want to see.

Rey can do well against them in a joust, she has he own alpha styled attack and consistent rerolls on 2 die defence.

Timewalk Assaj hurts them too, just avoid the initial alpha then keep them stressed.

jousting with Kimogila's nullifys the reenforce

there are a number of answers that work fairly viably, it just depends if your willing to joust them or not. Hope you find your answer...

let the wookie win

Have you tried dead animals?

I've been wanting to make a list out of 2 ARCs and Fenn Rau. It sounds like it could work well to me.

Less well than it sounds

Unfortunately impossible to get anything out of a non-Norra Arc compared to Low and Norra just isn't Miranda

Or Poe

Poor, beautiful ARC :(

You just blow them up... not too sure how else to respond. Reinforce is good and all but they still only have 1 evade and you can get in behind them. Also, one well-placed block and all of the sudden that Wookie ship eats huge damage from the rest of your list, it's not like they are hard to predict block the 2 hard turn and then crush them.

Autoblaster y-wings are fun against them. Autoblaster bypasses the reinforce. Plus they have the hit points to tank partially or unmodified shots coming back at them.

Make cute eyes and they won't eat you.

Honestly I've been asking this same thing in Battlefront II 2. It seems like there's no defense against Wookiees in general.

After losing a couple of times to the Magic Carpets and thinking about the losses I think there's two tactics that might work and both have been mentioned above: blocking and picking off the individual ship.

If the Wookies as flown in a tight formation, blocking is probably the best choice. Block the lead ship and you can end up with 3 or 4 actionless targets and with a little luck kill two off the bat. Certainly one will die unless your dice hate you.

The othe formation I've lost to is the one where all four are spread out, staggered and within range three of each other. You usually have one tun, possibly two, where one Auzi is alone or barely covered by a second ship. You should be able to Alpha Strike the frontrunner and have enough time to set-up for the number two ship.

Obviously, timing is critical as is a small bit of luck.

Gallon milk jugs filled with water on the lawn.

Blocking, stress, ion, bombs, stressing bombs, ion bombs, and stressing things and ion-ing things is a good start.

Flanking is muy importante. Get a ship behind them and start wreaking havoc.

Barrel roll. I find ships with barrel-rolls are better against wookiees as its easier to stay behind them and/or roll out of the reinforced side and still get shots, where as the boost in a single arc ship may not get you shots, only out of arc.

Supposedly, they were nerfed but I still get what seems to be one shotted by them at close range. However death troopers will melt them if you use their ability that let's them rapid fire without overheating... guess we need a TIE Reaper in x wing lol

Lone Wolf/Rey Dash is great against them. I misplaced m Ghost and lost if after it did something like 2 damage to one of three tactician/Expertise wookies, and Dash proceeded to solo them, since they simply couldn't make it to range 2.

A Trajectory simulator fueled Thermal Detonator, followed by K-turns leaves you in a fantastic position.

Finally, flying a ship they simply can't hit - like Kylo or Whisper is a bit of an auto-win, but not very much fun.

Not true, sadly.

Agreed - Sensor Jammer is a nightmare for quad wookies with commandoes but largely irrelevant for triple wookies with expertise.

Auto-damage is nice, blocking is another one. Auzitucks are pretty predictable and without their reinforce token they take damage in big chunks.

If you can get behind them, it's relatively easy to stay there - there was a rule of thumb that no ship can get out of it's own arc of fire without boost or barrel roll, so if higher PS pilot dials in a manouvre to park where you are now, it will have a shot on you and (barring segnor, talon or koiogran) it won't have a shot on you. The Auzituck is the only ship in the game without either a 'turn about' manouvre or a 'stop' manouvre, so it's very vulnerable to this.

Has anybody tried A-wings to get in behind them and stay behind?

I've only faced Wulfarro a couple of times, this is with Norra and Dash to which I just focused on him as I flew towards and past to get out of arc then carried on focusing on him before tackling the other two ships that I was facing.

He took a beating but gave it back also.

Once I pick up the HoTR expansion it may help, though I fear next time I face the Wookie he's gonna have possibly two hairy mates to deal with!

Think it may be time to let on to the Grand Moff Tarkin that Kashyk is a Rebel habouring planet and needs some freedom.

Officer disruption also does not damned work on them if they use their overload, so they still get their bowcaster.

And yeah Death Troopers, the fanbase always says they need a nerf... I uh, haha, I guess they don't play Blast in Mos Eisley much. >_>

I've heard that torching Kashyyyk gets good results, for a few months at least

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get a permit from the Kashyyyk embassy though.

Well... don't be surprised if you ask... :D
