Starting out with Scums

By DeDeKale, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys/girls,

I'm just starting out playing X-wing and bought some Scums & Villains because I think they are cool.

Not making it too expensize I bought Core Set, Guns for Hire expansion, StarViper expansion and the Punishing One expansion. I want to make a cool fleet out of this but I'm not sure yet on how to do this. Can someone help me on the core tactics in building a squad and playing Scum tactics?

For my fleet now I am thinking of this (with only using the pieces I have):

Manaroo: R5-P8, Dengar, Attanni Mindlink, Stealth Device.

Prince Xizor: StarViper MK. II, Attanni Mindlink, Pulsed Ray Shield.

Guri: Rage.

This is 99 points. I'm thinking (as in tactics) of flying Manaroo and Prince Xizor together to help each other out and Guri more as a lone wolf.

What are your thoughts and tips for me starting out?

Thanks,

DeDeKale

Wow, this actually ain't too bad with just what you have:

Thweek (28)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Contracted Scout (25)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Dengar (3)
Punishing One (12)

Guri (30)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Total: 98

Scout or Guri can focus for each other. Scout is nasty with rerolls from Dengar crew and focus from attanni, and even a barrel roll in there as well. Thweek has a 2pt init bid so always move last with thweek when you can. Just take highest PS (shadowed condition). Dont be overally aggressive with your vipers. Slow play thweek and flank with him. Once he gets in the thick of it, he can be real nasty with those barrel-rolls.

TIPS:

Include Autothrusters always when you can. One of, if not the best 2pts you can spend in the game.

Check the FAQ on ffg's website before you play other people at game store, etc. because a lot of cards and ships have changed. Your Punishing One no longer has torpedo slots or agromech slot, so be wary of this when playing in a store as many regulars of xwing only use the latest FAQ rules (like attanni is limited to only two ships).

Stealth Device generally is never used except on 3 agility ships. 3pts is a lot to spend on a green die. Better off just taking hull upgrade.

Never trust green dice. They will fail you, laugh at you, make you cry, rage out, and want to punch a baby.

Thanks a lot!

I will try some things out tonight!

Edit: Actually isn't the starviper title unique?

Edited by DeDeKale

Not the Mark II, Virago is: the little pip to the left of the name is the unique marker.

Try the kihraxz out too! The title from GfH makes it totally worth maxing out...

I started out with scum with the intention to not make it too expensive but ye... 25 ships and an epic ship later we still havent bought everything I want :P

You have some very strong starting options. Here is my suggestion, with just a few proxied cards:

Contracted Scout

Intimidation

Intel Agent

Ion Projector

Thweek

SV Mk. II

Virago

FCS

AT

Guri

Intensity

SV Mk. II

That leaves you 9 points for illicit or torp upgrades

Guri and Thweek are by far the strongest Starviper pilots available. Choosing who gets the Virago title is hard, but ultimately, Guri has easier access to mods without it.

The Scout is a standard, and very effective bumpmaster. Just get him in someone's way, and proceed to profit.
