Wired, Ezra, and rerolls

By thespis721, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Is there any reason you can’t reroll Wired dice one at a time?

Lets say I have Maul, Ezra, and Wired on a ship. I roll my Attack dice. Blank, focus, focus.

I use Maul to reroll the blank into a hit. Now I can I use wired to reroll one focus to see if I need to reroll the second focus or do I have to reroll both at once?

It’s not an action and doesn’t say it can’t be done once so I don’t see why after rolling one die, you’re still stressed and can reroll the second.

When you decide to trigger and resolve Wired you may, at that time, select "1 or more of your [focus] results" to reroll. The trigger and resolution of wired falls under "once per opportunity." If you roll blank, focus, focus and decide to use wired you may choose 1 or more of the focus results. You get to make this choice once, not twice. You would need a ship with two Wired EPT cards equipped (currently - 2/1/2018 - impossible in regular play) in order to chose one, then chose the other.

FAQ page 7: “When a player is intructed to reroll a number of dice, he must choose all of the dice that he will reroll before rerolling any.”

The “once per opportunity” rule referenced by @ZealuxMyr also applies. That rule is found under “Card Abilities” in the Rules Reference.

Thanks guys!

Besides, if I assume you have Maul (crew), Ezra (crew), and Wired (elite pilot talent) on a ship [meaning Ezra is not the name on the pilot card] you wouldn't want to reroll both focus results anyway. Maul lets you reroll the blank, Ezra (crew) lets you convert 1 focus result to a critical hit result directly, and then you can used Wired to reroll the leftover focus result and hope for a hit or critical hit icon. No point in rerolling both focus results when Ezra (crew) ensures one is a critical hit if you don't reroll it. Also really no point to run Wired (as is so often the case...) just take 2 stress from Maul, hope you hit so you're still just left with one stress at the end of the combat phase...or replace Ezra with Inspiring Recruit (and really hope the attack hits so you're not stressed at the end of the combat phase). I have never found Wired worth more than a glimmer of hope that things might be better, if you want to modify focus results assign a focus token...or two...

Thanks, for once I was too lazy to go find and source my references...

I could maybe see a Wired + Hera (crew) combo being worthwhile, for some offensive modifications.

I'm going to partially disagree with you ZealuxMyr: Wired "works" because there is a chance that it gives you boost more than once per round. If you are attacked 3 times in the same round, and can attack yourself, that's 4 potential uses you get out of wired instead of the single focus token that probably took your action that turn. Now, I'm not advocating that wired is a good EPT, but it can be situationally useful.

So you are saying Wookiee Commandos is not really good too...

Wired can be good on A-Wing

Wookiee Commandos aren't great most of the time, but they're also easier to activate than Wired. Half-a-focus per attack isn't so much good as cheap , and notably the only real crew option for 4x Auzitucks. And I say this as someone who loves to fly a cheap Ghost/Phantom with TLT and Wookiees for 60 points. For Wired to work out, you need a source of stress other than red moves and to be able to reliably take actions other than focus or TL. There aren't many ships which really fit the bill. A-Wing kind of can, but it's just still an A-Wing. On top of that, Wired is just unreliable. I love Wired, it's one of my favorite Elite upgrades in theory . It just seldom actually works out.

I like wired on a Jonus with fleet officer, systems officer, and TIE Mk. II, budget support with fairly consistent rerolls based off of fleet officer.
