Can damage control officer stop overload pulse

By stev, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I was not sure on how the dco and contain work with overload pulse and if so would one on a mc75 be solid counter to a bording trooper avanger star destoyer?

DCO and spend defense tokens happen before the resolve critical step so that would stop overload pulse.

That said it wouldn't stop boarding troopers as they aren't a critical effect.

So, yes and no. DCO/Contain would stop Overload Pulse. But because Boarding Trooper Avenger doesn't rely on OP, it doesn't really have an impact.

First of all, it sounds like you're working from a common misunderstanding of the interaction between Overload Pulse and Avenger .

ISD rolls dice. They include a blue crit.
The target spends any defense tokens. Avenger prevents target from spending any tokens that are already exhausted at this point .
ISD player declares which critical effect he will be using. In this case, he has the default crit and the OP special crit to choose from. He chooses OP.
Crit resolves, exhausting any defense tokens that were not previously exhausted.
Damage is totalled. At this point, if the target spent a brace or redirect earlier in the attack sequence, their effects are resolved.

You'll notice that, because OP exhausts the target's defense tokens after it has had the opportunity to spend them, Avenger does not pair with OP intuitively. This doesn't preclude you from using the combo on the same ship to, for example, use a double-arc to proc OP out the side are and then swing away with the front arc--it just doesn't interact during the same attack .

Secondly, OP is not generally part of the BTVenger combo, and DCO Contain does not stop the critical link in the combo .

Boarding Troopers is the piece of the combo that exhausts defense tokens prior to the defender's opportunity to spend them. DCO Contain can't be used to prevent this, because BT is not a crit effect.

You are right my brain didn't work right there haha rebels just don't have way stop that combo :(

It really comes down to outflying and forcing a better engagement, taking out the ISD at range, or using bombers. I'm probably making it seem a bit easier than it is. I've never actually played against that combo, my friend and typical opponent doesn't want to take it.

Ion cannon batteries for what its worth

Could still use a squad dial, so you would need dial manipulation as well.

And hope they don't have blasters Hondo or Veteran Captain.

Batvenger ISDs typically store a squadron token, so you can possibly mount Ion Cannon Batteries on your MC75 and snipe off his tokens, denying or delaying his BT from going off.
