FFG has a lot of catching up to do...

As for everyone jumping ship to 40k due to lack of content... First off I would guess that the vast majority of new folks brought into the hobby are going to be attracted by the IP, and just because both are Sci-Fi Fantasy I think everyone would admit 40k IP wise isn't necessarily for everyone. Also, GWs prices will be shocking to new folks and even with the simplified 8th edition its not exactly going to be as simple to get into as Legion.

As I stated on a different thread this is "a product that is the closest to printing money they[FFG] can get without an investigation by the Secret Service."

That's a very bold claim.

I sincerely hope it does, even as a 40k player. X-wing outsold it not from it being a great or better version of 40k, but it being a different approach to a tabletop miniatures game. I don't think it will outsell it from what has been announced with wave 1 and 2, but they're a good start. They need to follow up and give it some serious support if they plan on beating out 40k. I think by the end of the year we'll have a better idea of where it will be because I'm curious how much support they are going to give this game. I hope they don't just rely on it being star wars and scalping some sales from 40k. I'm skeptical, but so far, I like what I see.

FFG will no doubt have Store, Regional, and National championships, as they do for most other games (X-wing, IA, ect) with prize packs that include alt art cards, dice, measure, and movement templates. So rest assured FFG will support their game in a way GW has never!

I love the extra goodies in the game night kits.. really entices players to participate, especially since you "typically" get something even if you place last. The alt art cards are awesome, the acrylic tokens and range rulers are coveted and the dice bags are just plain awesome. I also like how some of the above can be used across their games, like the dice bags for example.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself here. But the reason I know that I’m all in with Legion and never investing into 40k is simple. I think that 40k gameplay is garbage. Again, that is my take, not to be taken as me trying to state a fact. I’ve played games with more than a few people at my flgs, I’ve won and lost. But it has never been fun. Not once.

Legion is way more streamlined from what we’ve seen. I feel like as far as the way the game plays, it can be more easily compared to malifou than 40k (though it still has many differences.)

In addition, while I DO like the lore that 40k brings with it. Star Wars has it beat without breaking a sweat.

Here’s the thing. If I never meet another person who has invested in this game. If it dies out quickly and is forgotten by most. I will still be happy to bring out all of my minis and play a game with a buddy my place any time. I dont see a future where I regret my decision to purchase this game.

I havnt collected or played 40k for a looooong time (I remember as a kid being in the new Games workshop store in sheffield when they were demoing the first table of40k rogue trader..I was mesmerized!!(huge fort thing with marines approaching an ork? fort thing).

I still love the lore, its very clever, love the black Library books(those first 3 about the same 4 Captains are brilliant)

On the other hand...its been 20+ years since ive played I think...and watched a game or two a few years ago and the GAME looked horrible. Was about 10 tanks, lined up against each other about 30 yards from each other in 2 big long lines...just looked so stupid to me.

Bring on Battles vs the Galactic empire.

My gaming group quit WH Fantasy with 'Sigmar" release, played kings of war for awhile. We play a lot of different games, not everyone bought into X-Wing, but all 9 of us played it. Fewer played Armada. GW requires you to buy the latest fad to be competitive. FFG requires you to buy new releases to get that card, which may come with a different faction than you play. I have a hard time comparing GW and FFG games. I plan to but Legion, but I'm not sure who else will be interested. I think we will have to wait and see...

Early releases so far give the same cards to both sides in multiple expansions. At least with all four initial corps expansions they have the same grenade and equipment card. Only the speed bike I think has an unknown comms card, but I assume we'll find out what that is soon enough.

I also think they said in an interview that they were going to stop that practice. So if a new card comes out with a wave, it will come in both factions expansions for that wave

Good!

I really, really want Legion to succeed. So, I really do hope they follow through. I haven't seen evidence for the contrary, but I'm always very cautious. Likely due to the failings of companies like GW.

I hope they stop that practice in xwing as well. Wave 12/13 was pretty promising that they’ve abandoned that.

I hope so, especially now they are competing with the likes of 40k and warmahordes.
