Factions

By jcmonson, in Star Wars: Legion

I know this discussion has been done a bunch recently, but I thought it would be interesting to get a rough breakdown of where the community stands as a whole on the number of factions they want the game to have. Let's make it simple and have 3 categories:

2 factions(Rebel and Imperial only)

3 Factions (Please specify the third faction)

4+ Factions (you can specify if you want)

I would like to keep this in the GCW period so please refrain from listing the First Order/Resistance or Republic/CIS.

Definitely more than 4

For solely in the GCW era:

3 Factions

Scum, which depending on the commander/units selected could represent Weequay pirates (please oh please oh please make a Hondo Commander!), Black sun raiders, Mandalorian mercs, and Hutt cartel enforcers.

Edit: Hopefully we do get other eras for other factions though.

3 (scum)

If they do subfactions like xwing, thats fine. But no more than 3 full factions.

I fit in the 4+ factions group. Ideally I would like to see at least 5, broken into 3 alignments.

Dark:

Empire

Hutts, or just Crime syndicates

Light:

Rebel Alliance

I'm unsure what to call this group(all other groups fighting the empire, but that aren't part of the Rebel Alliance. Such as the free Ryloth movement, Wookie Resistance, Droid Gotra)

Neutral

this group would have the Mandalorians and pirate groups(think Hondos group)

Ideally they would have a mechanic where you could use a unit or two from a faction in your alignment and the neutral faction.

I could see the alignment thing, but I'm not a huge fan of the mix and match freely style of list building. It can make for less variety as the meta demands that "all lists need to have a Mandalorian jetpack squad" for instance.

I want to see one of two things happen.

1. 2 factions. Leave the scum out of it. They don’t have the same kind of ground combat lore that they do in dogfights. All the famous stuff here are ships. You can have some characters like Boba Fett turn up as specialists.

2. 4 factions - GCW factions as is, add Republic and CIS for clone wars era combat.

6 factions:

The Grand Army of the Republic,

The Confederate of Independent Systems,

The Rebellion to Restore the Republic,

The Galactic Empire,

The Resistance,

The First Order.

(You should be able to mix and match between the different factions in the same way as in x-wing e.g. empire and first order ships fighting along side.)

I disagree. Between the Clone Wars cartoon, the comics, and Empire at War: Forces of Corruption there are extensive scum ground forces options.

I think a scum faction is inevitable since constantly releasing stuff for only 2 will result in unrecognizable "obscure wars episode 3 the unknown units" and all the cheese piling up in broken combinations. More factions will increase the range of iconic models and will separate potentially cheesy mechanics through (more) faction walls.

Probably we will see it sooner than later because of a) the speed at which Runewars released its factions and b) the huge potential Solo a star wars story will give it marketing wise. They would be stupid if they wouldn't harvest the potential of the movies launch.

I would also hope to see more factions sooner rather than later as it would help hold off the usual "later factions are more powerful from the start" kind of thing.

3 with scum. That way every unit release remains relevant to the game as a whole. Otherwise you end up with the faction nobody plays and it takes up slots in the release schedule.

To be fair. Forces of Corruption is one big fanservice expansion.

And? :P

Edit: We still see plenty of pirates with tanks in Clone Wars and comics, and I'd imagine some of them would use Clone wars era tech if they found it.

4+

I dont see this happening immediately but over time id love to see new factions added in. Personally I'd prefer ffg to add in factions sooner rather than later to avoid owning 3+ armies but i surmise additional factions might very well depend on how well legion sells and how long it stays alive. I'd love to see it thrive and have a legacy like 40k.

This guys knows whats what!

No cross mixing needed. People are thinking of huge 40k armies with dozens of different units. Legion doesn't appear to have that.

All you need to form a legion army is a wave that includes

A commander, 2 troops choices and 1 special or heavy unit.

Then a following wave with a second commander, and another special or heavy.

I would like two main factions and most "scum" working on either group. Maybe they start fleshing out that "specialized" unit slot with the scum?

I'm really hoping to see 6 factions, 1 for each side of the 3 main eras.

I view the Special Forces term more of a reference to a until with significantly better training than the average soldier rather than say a motley band of Weequay pirates.

Agreed, just throwing out ideas of what could be. Wouldn't mind maybe a ragtag group of mandalorian commandos for hire as a "specialized scum", but I definitely agree with what you mean.

We need gungans !

Im thinking

empire

rebels

scum and villany that both factions can use a few units from but is also a separate faction
