Twin Shadows

By bumbleb1492, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys I've been thinking about flying a dual shadow caster list but I don't really know what I should build it as. I know ketsu and asajj are good but what upgrades would you run on them?

Elite: Asajj is usually Lone Wolf or Push the Limit in a double Shadowcaster list (VI is usually for when she'd be paired with someone like Boba Fett at PS 8). Ketsu is often Expertise or Fearlessness .

Crew: Asajj is Latts Razzi . There is no alternative--she's just too good. Ketsu is usually Dengar , but K4 Security Droid is also fine.

Illicit: Usually Glitterstim and/or Scavenger Crane (for extra Countermeasures). Theoretically, Inertial Dampeners or Burnout Slam are probably also pretty solid (you can either get a key stall, or clear a tonne of space with a large base), but I don't think I've really seen many folks use them. I know I don't have the knack of IDs. I don't think Contraband Cybernetics would come close to Glitterstim here (it's better on some other ships, though). I think Black Market Slicer Tools is a cute idea, but not actually very good. Glitterstim is just so good at doing what a Shadowcaster wants to do that it's very popular here.

Modification: There are a fair number of options here. Countermeasures are great in today's Harpoon Missile meta. Engine Upgrade is always great on large-base ships. Gyroscopic Targeting is cheap and solid action economy.

Title: Whoever has highest pilot skill. This will usually be Ketsu. Given that Ketsu already has tractor effects, it's good but might not be mandatory.

I bet putting any combination of that stuff together would make a reasonable list.

Asajj wants to be a tank. PTL (usually for focus/evade) and Lone Wolf both give her strong defenses (Lone Wolf, Glitterstim, and Countermeasures is often called Timewalk, since Asajj mostly just gets to take another turn unscathed by opponent's attacks. The name comes from an old Magic: The Gathering card.).

Ketsu loves to get in your face. Generally, you want to build her so that it doesn't matter much if she bumps into someone. That's why Expertise is better here than Push the Limit, generally. Or why Dengar is preferred to a reroll-based Elite (Predator/Lone Wolf) and Recon Specialist. Dengar and K4 both work on bumps. With her pilot ability, she can just tractor a small-based ship off of her nose, and then blow it apart.

@theBitterFig pretty much nailed it, boom headshot monsterkill, then wrapped it up in a pretty bow. I have nothing to add here aside a second to the above post. Also a gif.

@theBitterFig , excellent analysis. Very much appreciated. But with flying Ketsu and Asajj, do you flank along both edges of the board to fully utilize Lone Wolf or would you stay closer to allow PTL to be more effective?

Use PTL on Asajj and Expertise on Ketsu - they can fly as close as they want!
