AAAB - modernized A-Wing squad

By GreenDragoon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The standard SnapCracklePop sports 5 A-Wings with Snapshot and Crackshot. Over a year ago I went down to 4, but two got Juke and the other two prockets, and all with Autothrusters.

In the meantime I really wanted to put a B-Wing with Ioncannon and Tactician on the board. That build denies movement and actions, too, leading to a stressed 1 white forward. This lets you know perfectly where a ship ends up - of course right in your snap shots! Luckily you can still fit exactly three, and even with Juke!

AAAB (100)

Blue Squadron Pilot (31) - B-Wing
Accuracy Corrector (3), Ion Cannon (3), B-Wing/E2 (1), Tactician (2)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing
Snap Shot (2), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Juke (2)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing
Snap Shot (2), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Juke (2)

The accuracy corrector just ensures that no Nym or Miranda will ever move normally again.

3 Snapshots + 3 Range1shots deal on average 7.5 damage in a round. Because Juke lets you ignore the one defense die entirely, and a stressed ship won‘t have a focus anyway! Add the 1 from the Ion cannon and Miranda is almost dead.

Isn‘t it beautiful?

im interested to hear how this performs. I've been toying around with the B-wing as of late too and I am finding they are too slow, for my play style.. but I do like your concept and think it could be a good way to focus down single low agility targets.

I'm really hoping B-Wings can make a comeback. Its my classic favorite (first expansion I got when I started playing), and it was slowly phased out by the high damage aces. But it seems like high health is making a comeback, and with new cannons and stuff hopefully they have a new viability.

Now all we need is harpoon torpedoes and Nera will shred everybody.

A small variation could be to throw in a concussion missile instead of AC.

A deadeye concussion with chips has a 95% chance for 4 hits. That‘s higher than a double modified Harpoon (double mods which I can‘t get) and does not bring the risk of splashing on my own snapshot ships. It would add some oomph and allows me to fly tighter with one ship clearly in the back instead of trying to get all 3 into range 1.

My idea is to keep the awings back, ionize a target, and then next turn swoop in for the snapshots. The B-wing has to survive until his first shot.

After that it‘s standard awing shenanigans. I‘m happy if the B-Wing gets another shot off, but I‘m ready to lose that ship if necessary. He‘s not on the A-team anyway :P

X-Wing puns are always legendary :P

Concussions are always fun. I'm loving them right now instead of harpoons because they are so much more efficient in completely destroying one ship. (and two free modifications without a TL? if you aren't rolling hits and focus and roll four blank, and don't end up with at least 3 hits, your game is going to be going to be pretty poorly no matter how you fly)

Love me some Snap/Juke As. I think they're super viable. I am curious to see if the B pulls its weight

Just played a game against an awesome guy with Low+ 3 RookiesFAA. I lost, but was one of the most fun games in a long time!

The B-Wing was the MVP and almost walked Low off the board. Once he's behind (which is relatively easy) and ionized and stressed low, he will keep him ionized and stressed. I played the variant with the concussion, and made a crucial mistake in the beginning. I missed AccuracyCorrector more than I wanted the missile. But the list is not as bad as expected. And it feels great to play A-Wings again.

anything to try and keep A-Wings relevant. I love me some A-Wings, and been flying 4 procket crack snap in my more relaxed games. I find the more advanced players, locally at least, have learned how to range control against snaps a lot more than they should, and A-wings and dropping like flies. :( they all figured out my secrets!

These A wings aren’t really ‘modern’ check out the “Jess and the Jukes” thread.

But that said, the idea of adding a B wing instead of Jess Pava is interesting.

yes they are the same old build, but I needed a stupid title :D

I'd love to see Tactician get replaced by Operations Specialist. Get those Snaping A-Wings to load up your list on focus tokens. Accuracy Corrector/Ion Cannon is pretty brutal on 1 agility ships, but going FCS might be enough. With a focus token against a 1 agility ship with a focus, you'll still have a ~90% chance of hitting with Ion, and a ~99% chance once you've established a TL on the ship. What's more, perhaps your B-Wing can TL on the approach, and have one of your A-Wings toss it a Focus token.

I'm normally a big AccC booster, but I just think that OpSpec could be really nice.

If you want OPspec then there are better lists: 4 snapcrackles with a TIE for example.

The Bwing with stress+ion is crucial, so Tactician has to stay. Also, in the game where I could use him so far I had to bump several times into the ionized ship. It was just the best maneuver for later. That means AC lets me still hit, even without actions. I know FCS will do bascially the same. But I don‘t need the extra point anywhere else, so I might as well use AC.

Oh, the ion/stress combo is a huge part of why I don't want to give up Flechette Cannon in the Rainbow TIE Ds I've been flying lately.

Bumping tactics make sense.

Also want to try A-Wings with a Sheathipede, seems like fun.

That puts your ships into a weird spot. The Sheathipede is too expensive to bring 4 As, but too cheap to make just 3. Unless you want to bring more ordnance of course
