I'd love to see Clone War/Republic Era ships in the game. But as a couple people have pointed out, the factions get weird at that point. The Republic is ideologically similar to the Rebel faction, but literally is just a predecessor to the Imperial faction. Because of that I think the best way to introduce old ships would be as a totally new Republic faction. That could include Clone War era stuff, as well as some stuff from the old republic. As for the CIS... I do think making them their own faction would be hard. Maybe just don't introduce those ships into the game, as I'm sure they are less popular than their Republic counterparts, or introduce them as a subfaction of scum, which sort of makes sense.
The big Clone Wars thread.
Just a thought - what if droids didn't have Focus actions and couldn't recieve stress? Currently, all ships legal for 100/6 have that action, but droids are pretty unflappable and also pretty static in their thinking. Might be a cool mechanic to add.
For the Separatists, this would just be off the tip of my tongue:
Separatist Small Ships
Vulture Droids (Droid Command Units)
Hyena-Class Bomber Droid (Droid Command Units)
Droid Tri-Fighter (Droid Trifighter Command Units)
Bellabulb-22 (
Soulless One
title, Grievous pilot)
MagnaGuard Fighter (
Xanadu Blood
title, Cad Bane pilot)
Fanblade Starfighter (
Last Call
title, Asajj Pilot)
Geonosian Starfighter (Dooku pilot)
TechnoUnion Starfighter (Wat Tambor pilot)
Neimodian Shuttle (Dooku pilot, Nute Gunray pilot)
Aurra Sing's Starfighter (unknown type, but man is it sweet looking ... like a swoop bike and Khiraxz had a baby, Aurra Sing pilot)
Separatist Large Ships
Star Courier (
Scimitar
title, Darth Maul pilot)
Firespray-31 (
Slave-1
title, Jango Fett pilot)
Many of these ships are visually great, and I'd rather have these than a TIE Avenger or an A-Wing RZ2, that's for sure.

I agree with you, there's plenty of Seperatist ships to go around! Not necessarily sure I agree on the TIE Avenger and RZ2 A-Wing, but still. The Seperatists would be awesome and hopefully add some more variance to this game.

Don't forget the Umbaran fighter, it could be a really unique one, with 180 arc, a lot of shields but weak hull, slow but maybe with some reverse manuevers. There are no named pilots, but it's simple to just invent nicknames, let's say by taking the names of Umbaran animals- Umbaran Militiant PS1, Millicreep Squadron Pilot PS3, • "Vixus" PS5, • "Banshee" PS7, and voilà, we have enough pilots for a complete expansion.
Just wanted to add that if Star Wars: Legion were GAR vs. CIS, I would probably buy in. Seeing all the cool clone and droid variants, along with all their awesome vehicles would be a sight to behold. Also, it makes more thematic sense to have equal points of droids and clones, than Rebels and Imperials, because the Rebels were more often than not relegated to small strike forces, more like Imperial Assault.
But that ship has sailed, and I get to save my money for Runewars...unless a Clone Wars era Core Set comes out, in which case I'll have to pick that up.

Totally agreed. I would totally buy all of Legion if I could paint my own Clone army.

Dang, I'd have probably bought into LEGION too if it had been Clone Wars. Doubly so if it would have been at a 5mm scale, with squads and squads of infantry getting dropped by dropships, and walkers and hailfire droids and all sorts of mecahnized units littering the battlefield.

RYO-001 through RYO-999 lol
But there's also geonosians like sun fac
It would be no worse than having things like "omega leader" and "zeta leader" especially if they're droids. "RYO leader" etc. Who cares...
But I think FFG has enough to work with still: the last Jedi RZ-2 A-Wings, maybe even one of those luxury ships as a scum support from canto bight, the han solo movie coming out I'm sure will add some new ships and then episode 9 and anything missed from rebels and the eu.
We may see clone wars stuff one day (and I would be fine with that) but there seems to be enough new stuff being introduced that FFG doesn't need to look to the clone wars for ships yet outside of what we already have from the era.

That way it'd be easy for players to decide on their own whether to pit Anakin against Vader or not. TOs could announce which factions were legal for their events.
I really don't see the point of not having 5 factions in the same game, but I definitely would not buy it at all if you couldn't at least play it with XWM casually.

Now git off my lawn with your pesky droids and clones!
Something with a new strategy could only enhance the game. Speaking of which:

Yeah, I think Droids and The Force need to be represented in the game with some mechanic that is unique for that concept.

I think some people made a few good ideas for the droids in this thread. The Jedi could have some kind of Force upgrade, one that likely spends a focus token for some powerful effect, or just overall helps them get focus tokens.
We need this thing at least: https://www.shapeways.com/product/PS6U3SKS7/droch-class-boarding-ship-1-270?optionId=64441781

I think Jedi should be about staying focused, so not spending Focus, similairly to Poe.

New Force upgrade slot only available to Force users.
I actually use that idea in my rebalance mod for x-wing, and it's awesome.
*One in a million
Force talent.
When attacking a ship inside your firing arc at the start of the "compare results" step , you may discard this card to cancel 2 of the defender’s [evade] results.
1 pts.
a better unique crack shot for Luke

Would this also retroactively add this to the Force user crew cards?

As I said, I'm working on a rebalance, in that it is.
Luke, Corran, Vader, Inquisitor etc. All have it

We already have at least 2 droid pilots in 4-LOM and IG-88. Shouldn't they have such an upgrade available to them?
Edit: and Guri
Edited by YakostovianI haven't read all of the comments. But what if they make a separate but compatible game called X-Wing Old Republic..or X-Wing Clone Wars. Keep the game mechanics the same. Let TO's decide what is legal for tournaments..etc

I had thought about this, but those folks aren't really robots, they're actual androids (Star Wars is weird - droid is obviously short for android but seems to apply to any/all robots). Anyhow, the point is that 4-LOM, the Iggys, and Guri are actually sentient people, with the body of a robot. Same for R2, '3PO, K-2, and a lot of the other droids we know. The Vulture droids are not sentient droids, they're mindless robots. So unlike those other droids we all know and love, they probably can't experience high points of focus or low points of stress, being very emotionally ambivalent. So I'd like it if Vulture droids gained the Non-Sentient keyword, giving them huge-ship rules for stress and focus.

Fair enough.
More on the original topic: I only recently got into the Clone Wars. It took me a few years to get through the first season because I was relentlessly mocking it (mostly General Grievous.) And then, I found out it was on Netflix, and binged through the rest of it. After a while, the show began to grow on me (but Grievous never redeemed himself) and I wanted more by the time I got to the end. So I started watching Rebels on my tablet, before Disney messed all that up while I was in the middle of S1E9. (I am still waiting on my local X-wing buddy to loan me his Seasons of the show.)
I would likely buy plenty of CW era ships, because I happen to find them pretty cool. Nubians, N-1s, V-19s, Actis, Aethersprites, LAATs, Hyenas, Vultures: all cool ships that I would likely purchase.

And probably a low PS. Maybe even more susceptible to ionization.
But in any event, making robots (non-sentient droids) a unique "thing" in the game.
BTW, "Droid" was coined by Lucas from "android" so he could trademark it.

Edited by Darth MeaniePersonally, I think a CW core set should include 5 ships. 3 Vulture droids, and 2 cheap Republic ships (perhaps the Torrent.) I say this because each of the current core sets are not the greatest starting point if that is all you have. 2v1 matches can get stale, but a 2v3 is a little bit fairer of a fight, and would probably move more units.

Totally agree, although I'd like to see it split up into two products - a CIS starter and a Republic starter. I don't really need more damage decks, templates, rulers, and dice, but it might be a nice way to get new people into the game. And that way you don't have to buy a ton of stuff for a faction you don't want.
