An Excellent Rebel Bumpmaster

By Cow-of-Doom, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The sheer audacity (and surprising effectiveness) of this list is wonderful. Mainly because of the U-Wing:

Heff Tobber w/

Title, Tactical Jammer, Cassian Andor (crew), BoShek, Collision Detecter

Ibitsam w/

Opportunist, Sensor Jammer, B-Wing E/2, Ezra (crew) Linked Battery

Jake Farrel w/

Intensity, AWTP, Chardan, AT, Outmanuver

I know I can take VI on Jake, but the challange for my build from my opponent was to stay under PS 7.

Obviously it can fall apart stupidly quickly, but the absolute amount of heck it can do is wonderful. You tuck the B-Wing in behind Heff, so you get Sensor+Tactical Jammer. You hope that the enemy unloads and loses their focus, and then take the stress from Opportunist, re-roll 2 dice, and flip a focus to a crit. And then do a green next round, and get at least a re-roll + focus with Linked Battery

Jake just does Jake things (though I prefer PTL instead of /along with intensity because you can get the target lock). I didn't realize that outmanuver only worked for Jake's shot, so I might swap that for PTL.

Realistically this will fall apart to anything competitive, but it might be my favorite setup for very casual random games. (actually if you have the points, the Ibitsam setup can actually be very good).

Interestingly Heff is the only U-wing I’ve played, but I gave him Jyn rather than Boshek.

I dig Heff. I do not know how competitive he is, but is is among the best blockers out there.

I also dig Ibtisam, though I think she needs to be run very light. LB, E2, Ezra, maybe VI, Collision Detector. I don't think Sensor Jammer/Opportunist is worth it. TBH, I think she can be competitive these days.

Jake is fun. A aces can scarcely push damage, but that's often a lot of play style. I just think he needs PTL/VI. I understand the opportunist appeal, but I just don't think it's worth it.

Yeah: I didn't realize that outmanuver only works for your attack (I suppose thats why literally nobody ever takes it). I thought that it removed agility for every attack (thus making it useful for blowing whatever Ibitsam has targeted into tiny pieces).

Yeah to make it more competitive I think swapping Outmanuver for PTL is good (but is that redundant with Intensity? I really missed having the TL for Jake. I think its more useful to get a focus/TL plus one reposition, than two repositions and 2 focus or a focus/evade. Most of the time 3 dice plus AT plus focus discourages somebody from shooting him in the first place.

The Ibitsam was obviously super heavy. The thing is that with two re-rolls and focus conversion when you are stressed, PTL becomes useless for her. Thats why I went with opportunist, because relying on red manuveres seems sketchy, and I can't really think of any other way to get stressed.

Sensor jammer was really more because I had the points and the focus flip seems good right now.

I definitely think PTL before Intensity on Jake. However, you c o u l d do both if you are willing to take the PS hit.

I couldn't get Heff to really work the one game I tried him, but I certainly dig that he's got cheapness on his side. 29 points fully built, as it appears. That'll certainly slot into a fair number of things. A YT-2400 is a good deal more expensive.

I had an opponent in a tournament once who was playing a Wild Space Fringer as a bumper along side a standard Rey (Finn/Kanan/Expertise). He'd built his with Tactical Jammer, Mangler Cannon, Outrider, and crew-Dash. I think if I were building one like that, I'd go HLC (no Outrider), Cassian, and maybe keep Tactical Jammer. I figure I'd rather have 4 dice on the approach, and trust my primary once I've gotten close in (3 dice at Range 1 is about equal to the Mangler).

Yeah the list overall is just going to struggle against alpha strikes. It just is.

So assuming that some match-ups I'm going to to the best I can against but just can't win against, the trick against everything else is really getting the approach right. Unless they try to outmaneuver the heck out of you, they generally have to plow into Heff. If you can get that to work, my plan is to generally try to mow down one ship at a time (except for targets of opportunity with other ships).

As for Jake, the switch to PTL is for sure. However is it worth dropping to VI instead to save the point? (maybe to go towards Ion Projector?)

And anybody have other build ideas to help stress Ibitsam? (base build with Linked Battery, E/2, and Ezra. EPT is up for debate, and I'm leaning towards keeping Sensor Jammer, unless four points are needed to free up something legendary in other places (because of all the Rho-boat deadeye out there, and the fact that the B-Wing will probably need the survivability once the U-Wing goes down (or Tac Jammer gets swapped for Ion Projector).

My only issue with it right now is that there is no way to get Ibitsam stressed before she shoots, so she can't capitalize on the defensive side of her ability before she shoots something with Opportunist, unless somebody else is shooting her afterwords.

Would it be better to try to fit Maullander than Ibitsam?
