If someone wants 4 impact genades on 4 squads but only has 2 cards I can see there being a huge problem at tournaments between those that know and play xwing and those that don't. Imho most GW players wouldn't careless if you were missing a card or 2 as thats what an army list is exactly for. Xwing players on the other hand.....

Well I could make very good fakes, but I’m honestly not that concerned in playing a tournament that may occur once a quarter. I’ve played a lot of tournaments in Warhammer and 40k and they can be fun, not saying they weren’t; actually paid for my eldar and terrain that way, but it’s not the only way to play. I prefer playing at my house drinking moonshine with friends. Besides I’ll still have enough official models to go to a tournament, not sure the list will be optimal, but at FFG tournaments you usually get something almost for showing up and if that something is an Alt art stormtrooper deployment cart? Well then, next time legal lol

The players aren't necessarily the problem. I believe the official tournament rules for X-wing require players to have official copies of their cards. GW official tourneys require you to use models that are almost entirely made from their products, I don't see how this is much different. Additionally, the cards ARE your army list.

Edit: this is why FFG miniature games have a big secondary market for cards.

I think xwing players will come into line quickly, due to the cost of getting more upgrade cards and the time it takes to make extra units playable

Its not the X-Wing players coming into line that matters, it's the tournament rules. If FFG stick to their "all upgrades must have their own official card" system, then that's what it'll be regardless of what people do for friendly games.

It's not different in Armada. If you go to a tournament and don't have the cards, you don't get to proxy stuff in. FFG should enforce that rule because it makes people buy their product which will increase the life of the game. Also, the packs will come with all the cards you need to field them, so there shouldn't be any scrambling to buy extra cards.

I agree entirely. Locally we never even enforced it with X-Wing. As long as you had ONE copy of the card, you could put it whever you liked as long as your list was very clear and the opponent had no confusion.

The real question is... will concussion grenades be in anything apart from the core? Cause i want me some of those

Exactly, it depends more on TOs and what they want to enforce. I don't really care if you have all 4 copies of Impact grenades, so long as you have one copy so I can see the rules, and some VERY clear way of marking your other cards with it (like a grenade card in a sleeve showing the back with IMPACT GRENADE written on the clear plastic of the sleeve, much like Magic the Gathering proxies). Especially for the cards that need to exhaust and refresh.

Worst case you'll either have people in your area who decide they don't need/want the concussion grenades, or they will pop up on eBay sooner or later like with X-wing and Armada cards.

Or maybe we will see them again in a future release that has a grenade upgrade slot, given both of the Corps releases for the next wave have the exact same upgrades as the individual boxes of Stormtroopers and Rebel troopers.

Unless you go to Regionals which tends to be local. Then you'll have to have all your cards.

If someone wants to make a squad out of whatever troopers he likes and paint up a trooper as a leader who cares.

True enough, fair point. Thats an official FFG event...by "local" i meant the non-official events put on in the stores, but chose my words poorly.

In my experience the proxy stuff tends to be enforced at regional events, and I’ve seen it happen at smaller OP events when someone is doing something egregious like playing black and white photocopies of X-Wing upgrade cards or using a D6 and a custom character card for Destiny. This might seem nuts, but I’ve seen both happen.

I’ve never seen the mod stuff enforced but I’ve also never seen someone show up with something really bananas in an official X-Wing, Destiny, or IA tourney. I assume the rule is there so no player is confused as to what mini or model is actually being used by their opponent. This might be interesting for Legion, since I assume the intent of the rule will be to make it obvious who a commander is.

Not quite. The official rules I've seen usually include the following points: "• Players may paint their models. They cannot modify a model in any way that would create confusion about which unit the model represents. • Players cannot modify model bases to alter their size or shape." So don't modify your Stormtrooper models to look like Snowtroopers and vice versa, or modify them in such a way someone isn't going to look at it and immediately go "That's an X trooper."

Edit: Which would be why I have cautioned people about using all black armour for their Stormtroopers, as if/when Death troopers are released that could cause confusion.

So we dont have to buy 3+ core sets to get all the concussion grenade cards we may need? Good to know....
