Has anyone done this?
I had primed a figure and it came pitted. I want to start over but I don't know if stripping the paint will ruin the plastic.

Edited by Purple OrcThere's a couple of threads buried here somewhere, but I've done this before, successfully.
I bought a big tin of Denatured Alcohol, soaked the mini in there for minutes up to an hour and the paint slides off. I used a toothbrush to get the rest off. Plastic looks detailed and fine.
I think you want to avoid Acetone here but I'm not expert. I'm wondering what you mean that your figure became pitted? Clumped up rough bits only after priming? Try cleaning the spray tip, hold the can upside down and spray until clear. Try again.
You might be able to find more detailed in the painting forum, but the general answer is usually "Simple Green."
I've not had to strip anything, myself, so can't say how fast/easy Simple Green makes the job.
I have had no luck with simple green. I used Super Clean in the purple jug. It will loosen up the paint on the miniature without hurting the plastic. I have done it many times with no problems. Just wear latex or vinyl gloves because it will dry out your hands.
I live in Germany and for stripping paint from plastic minis I use a product called Sterillium - it's a light blue liquid based on ethanol. It loosens the paint so that you can easily scrub it off with an old toothbrush, and it doesn't affect the plastic at all. It's also very mild to your skin so that you do not need to wear gloves. I don't know if it is available where you live, but I'm sure there are similar products available in other countries.
Westly’s White tire cleaner soak for about 30 mins and scrub under hot water with an old toothbrush
The best stuff I have found is super clean. Mix half and half super clean with water and let them soak for a week or so. Stuff just peels off then. If you by chance have an ultrasonic cleaner you can use it with the same solution and strip a mini in an hour with minimal scrubbing. I repainted my entire Gears of War set because the base coat wasn't bonding at all and I couldn't have done it as easily without the ultrasonic cleaner.
I agree with supersayian , simple green is not very good for stripping paint.
Other good things to use are rubbing alcohol to dissolve paint and goo gone for certain spots where it just wont come out.
The one thing to absolutely not use is nail polish remover with acetone as it will melt the plastic. Non acetone might be ok but i wouldn't try it.
Edited by VazzuciousSo after @Strawhat gave me the name Simple Green, I did a search on the forum and found a thread about stripping primer.
Someone in there recommended something called LA 's Awesome cleaner. It's easily found at the dollar store. So I'm giving that a try.
So after about 7 hours of sitting in this stuff some of the paint has come off. So I put it back in the liquid and I'll try scrubbing more off tonight when I get home. I'll let you know things go.
Thanks everyone for you help
I would get super clean and use that. It can get way better than that.
