Split a core set or keep both sides

By ScummyRebel, in Star Wars: Legion

I only plan to invest in one faction. I cannot afford to have all the things like I have historically done with xwing (and if I get Legion I need to adapt that spending habit, but I digress). That said...

Would you rather buy your faction, keep the other side of the core set “just in case” you need stuff for friends to play (and do only core set battles at that point, saving expansions for other friends). OR, trade the opposite side of the core set for more corps and support and get my army built faster, but only be able to play against people with other armies?

I'll be buying a core set and keeping both sides so I can play small skirmishes with anyone who wants to try the game. My finance isn't into this sort of thing, but she would definitely play from time to time. I have friends who would as well.

I have a buddy who is also getting the game, and is planning to play the other faction. We could split two cores... but the reality is if we want to play 800 point game he can use my Rebels and I can use his Imps and we're in the exact same situation we would be if we split. Instead, we might as well just keep our respective sides and each have the ability to play smaller skirmishes with other people.

There will be rulesets for 400 point games. So the core is decent to have I think.

Im going both. The only person in the country that i can play with is my brother and he doesn’t have the finaces for it

My current plan is to keep both sides. My wife will likely play small point games with me at home (we don't have a table large enough for the full game), and as has already been mentioned for casual games you can just borrow the half they aren't using. I also want ot paint both Rebel and Imperial figures, so this gives me that opportunity.

At the end of the day your local gaming scene will dictate whats best. Are you likely to have a large play group @ your flgs? sure, trade!

I know our local armada group usually keeps both and buys expansions rather than cards because they usually have to share to get a decent player pool outside of the 3-4 regulars

I'm going both sides as I want to be able to have options if playing in a tournament. I also need to have an opposing force available for when friends come over who don't own the game.

I am definitely buying both sides. My main opponent will be my 7 year old son and I don't do tournaments.

Buy two and keep both! ?

Mine will be my 9 yo son, and i'll see if there are tournaments near by and we both might go. Also depending on how he gets into it will decide how many extra we get over the next few years. And to start with one core and extra dice, then by mid year 2 of the snow and fleet troopers plus an AT-ST and a T-47.

For the first few months happy to play 400pts mini games and/or sub in the IA stuff if its just the two of us (or a few mates that don't war game) we can then play test what works for us before $$$.

I think my local gaming for it will be just playing with my buddies. I am still a die-hard xwing fan and my tournament community is fantastic for it (142 of us at FFG right now for regionals, I’m between games as I am online). That’s not going away.

for me, the game will be 3-4 other guys. My main enjoyment will be in learning to paint better and build cool wargame settings for casual thematic play.

one guy has preordered everything, one has preordered just core set and t47, one has preordered t47, core, and atst. Two of us are undecided.

I'm going to be running the game nights for my store (for which they give me a hefty discount), so I'll be buying both sides. Plus, I look forward to having a painting hobby again :-)

Keeping both!
