Looking for guidance

By CenterPoint, in Star Wars: Legion

so I've been a miniatures painter for a while, and I've dabbled in commission work but clearly I've only kept it as a hobby.

legion has spurred my painter's interest but I won't be able to jump into actually buying enough to be competitive for some time. as always I always attempt to make my hobbies pay for themselves so I'm not placing undue strain on my families financials.

so here's the question:

if I were to paint an entire core set of minis to sell on eBay, what is a good starting price?

I do own a air brush, but I tend to paint minis by hand.

to be clear I am not selling anything with this post, just looking for ideas from the people on this forum who may have done commission work before.

When you said “looking for guidance” i assumed you were an IA player who had seen the light

to be fair I am an ia player, and legion is the game I thought Ia would be

just not the topic of this particular discussion

Ahh good, a convert. But most importantly, the glorious benevolent Empire or Rebel terrorists?

It is based entirely on how well the models come out. Generally speaking though, I rather have the same painter working on my models due to the fact that if someone decided to paint themselves after purchasing a core, the models will not look the same.

Alot of times when I see painted models on sale I don't see it as a boon as then unless I go to the same painter, my future model purchases will look different if painted. But this is all my personal opinion.

The advantage here is if you go for a screen accurate paint job then the models should fit in fairly well with any other screen accurate paint job. The issue with pricing is mostly how much do you value your time and materials, and how much do others value your results/their own time to achieve similar results. For a game that isn't released yet, it is tough to say exactly how much value will be added by a even a basic screen accurate paint job, as the market doesn't exists yet and there are no other sales to use for comparison.

Edit: The prices for other miniature games/ IA painted minis can give you a basic idea, but that will still only be an educated guess. Finding the sweet spot of the upper edge of what people are willing to pay can be difficult.
