Generic Commanders?

By Bjbu, in Star Wars: Legion

I would like to see two expansions, one with a generic Rebel Commander and the other one with a generic Empire Commander. In each expansion there should be enough cards and stuff to create your own specific type of commander for your troops with different abilities, skills and so on. You can give him a name and make your own scenarios and campaigns to play your own story in the SW universe.

For example, Dall Bango, a former mercenary from Nar Shaddaa, searched by the Empire, now commander of a special forces team of the Rebels, operating on Jakku ... etc. etc. ... you know what I mean.

In addition to the possiblities I talked about above, I have to say that I don't like to play with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker as opposing commanders in a battle. For me, this makes no sense at all, because the two met each other on Bespin the first time and then on Endor the second (and last) time. There were no battles or skirmishes the two fought each other commanding troops during the original film trilogy. Of course You can say that all the SWL games you play with the two as commanders are "what if"-battles, but I'm no fan of this. It doesn't fit into the storyline between those two in the original film trilogy. So, if you don't want to use both in the same battle, you cannot play this game at all, because there are no other commanders to use. The same is true for Leia and General Veers (although an expansion like General Veers goes in the right direction).

So, I really hope and I would be happy to get generic commanders for the Rebels and the Empire.

Would love generic commanders that you could customize yourself with a pool of purchasable abilities/commands, though I fear they will only do known heroes/villains as Commanders.

This seems like a fantastic idea, in a perfect world, the model would come as just a torso and legs, and you'd have a couple different arms, backpacks and heads to put on them; Maybe you want a Twi'lek captain with a T-21, maybe a Chiss stormtrooper Officer with a stun baton, the possibilities could be endless.

Vader and Luke actually met before Bespin in Canon (and legends too I presume). The earlier Star Wars mainline and Vader Comics actually make a big deal out of it. I'm not a fan of this (I think the Comics make some major mistakes, except shattered empire) but that's how it is.

I agree with this, and it disappoints me. It wouldn't be very hard to create a generic commander for each side, but the game designer wants to only have the battles with the main heroes. Another reason I don't like this path is I fear they will try and shoehorn non commander characters into command slots just because they are popular, for example having Boba Fett as an Imperial commander. That personally would kill the game for me, as it would break from the lore in a huge way.

Or have them as special forces. This game has lots of space for characters not just commanders

Yeah Boba Fett belongs in special forces, but the amount of named Imperial ground forces commanders is tiny compared to the Rebel ones is tiny. The thing that worries me is that they will add non commander named characters to have an equal number.

I want generic commanders very much, but I would not make them customizable. The reason for this is that they could very easily be the only commanders fielded because they are more adaptable. What I think would be a better implementation would be cheaper generic commanders that don't boast as many abilities or courage/health, etc.

Generic commanders would work as a cheep secondary commander with some variety so they actually get picked.

For instance, your generic commander might not have the powerful abilities of the named commanders but instead have a large selection of mid tier command cards to mix up activations.

They shouldn't be insta-picks as they would be weaker and have less powerful commands than named characters, providing an incentive to actually cough up more points for the epic commands.

Alternatively, the commander is free and you pay for their commands.

I like the first idea a lot! Yet again I think the second could be too effective.

In WH40k the generics are highly customizable with all manners of generic faction stuff whilst the named ones have truly unique abilities. I guess this would work too.

I don't really care for generic commanders but I also don't begrudge anyone who does want them. Ffg released a legacy campaign box for netrunner maybe they could do the same with legion.

If they make some extra 'generic' commanders. There is Kayn Somos for the Empire and Gideon Argus for the Rebels. I mean they already brought Weiss from Imperial Assault. Why not bring some other guys?

This would be the easiest way to do it because they already have stats and abilities thought up.

I can't like this post enough!

And they are both trooper focused.

I like the idea of a command squad. Say you have Kayn and can add in Blaise or Sorin. And they can add in command cards along with extra firepower.
