The new Fairship Rebels?

By Elbastido, in X-Wing Squad Lists

After the great Biggs nerf, Fairship rebels lists kind of dropped off, but with the introduction of the Sheathipede could it make a comeback?

@Ailowynn recently did well at the Colorado Regionals with a stress causing version ( If you haven't, I recommend reading his battle report - https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/268163-colorado-regionals/ , it's excellent) and I've been trying out the following list for the past month or so:

Fenn Rau (20) - Veteran Instincts (1), Jan Ors (2), Flight-Assist Astromech (1) - (24)

Lowhrick (28) - Draw Their Fire (1), Tactician (2), Operations Specialist (3) - (34)

Jessica Pava (25) - Integrated Astromech (0), R2-D6 (1), Primed Thrusters (1), Veteran Instincts (1) - (28)

Captain Rex (14)

Total = 100 Points

The premise is fairly simple - the list should be pretty tanky - the combination of Jan Ors and Operations Specialist can allow a large number of focus and evade tokens to flow in the list (Lowhrick with reinforce, evade and focus is obnoxious), but it can struggle to push through damage.

I've played 7 games so far and lost once (to Tel Trevura and two TLT Y-Wings - I messed up the opening engagement and lost Rex and Fenn in one turn, completely forgetting Lowhrick's ability and DTF........), winning the rest.

I'm not completely sold on it yet and was wondering if anyone would suggest any improvements? Obviously Hot Shot Co-Pilot on Fenn would be great but I've no idea where to save points! :-(

I saw this with two Wookiees, Jess and AP5 (I think). It packed a massive punch, I guess it is quite vulnerable to bombs and harpoons though. Still very tough.

Really like the way you put that together. Fenn makes you that much tankier, especially against the alpha. OpSpec is stress independent, so that’s nice. And Jess at 5 gives you two chances to miss and give Low a focus (or hit and do damage).

Have you been playing against any ace lists? I’m interested to know how effective it is with only Tactician for control. May have to try out this version.

@Ailowynn - I used it last night against a Soontir / Jax / Inquisitor list. Tactician did a lot of work. It was hard to push through tokens at times, but I did manage to set up some bumps that eventually proved fatal to the aces, along with managing to double stress some of the aces.

I'd love to test it out against further ace lists to see how it goes. It can tank damage, but struggles to put any through.

That’s why I had Expertise on Low. More offense. Not to mention Ezra—when your green dice are unmodified, even Rex starts putting through damage consistently. I’m always a big fan of stress control though...I don’t know. On round one, Fenn’s ability is huge. After that, though, I feel like Ezra does the same thing, plus shutting off defensive mods, plus shutting off Expertise, plus shutting down their dial. That PS 11 Coordinate could be huge, though. I’m torn. I think I’ll really just have to try out your version, see how I like it in practice.

Ps11 coordinate is golden. The ability to reinforce knowing the board state is excellent, as is being able to boost Jess after everyone else has moved.

Like you say it's a tough choice!

Ha, same conversation I am actually having with my brother right now. Ezra or Fenn? When you go against expertise wookiees you are gonna go "DOH!, I shoulda had Ezra" and then you go against QD and 3 Nus and you are like "****, I knew I shoulda had Fenn" Then Expertise Rey gets setup across the table from you :P

I dont think there is a wrong or right answer. Something gonna get ya.

This is an excellent point. If you make a change you'll feel like you regret it, if you don't you could end up regretting it too! ?

I've a tournament in a few weeks time. I'm expecting to see plenty of dash / poetry type lists, along with plenty of GUNBOATS. Damned if I do, damned if I don't....

I have to say that I'm pleased no one thinks there's anything intrinsically wrong with the list though!

You can just fit in Kanan over Jess and Rex, which both beefs up your offense and denies even more offensive power. I'm thinking:

Fenn Rau (26)
M9-G8
Weapons Engineer
Adaptability

Lowhrick (30)
Tactician
A Score To Settle
Chopper

Kanan (44)
Fire Control System
Rey
Jyn Erso

Totalling 100 points.

Lowhhrick gets some stress control and some mods for the inevitable focus results one rolls. Fenn has the golden M9-G8 combo to either buff Lowhhrick and Kanan or further devastate the opponent's offense, and will use coordinate most turns to use Jyn on Kanan. Kanan is super consistent with Rey and FCS, making him a very heavy hitter.

Overall, you remove one die from every attack, get a free evade against one attack, deny all token mods from one target and reroll two of your opponent's dice, all while having two strong guns.
