Please Fill me In - Returning Player

Have been checked out of the game since before wave 12 hit but after wave 11 was released. Just wondering from players that have had their finger on the pulse whats new. I see the Jumpmaster was nerfed and Bigg's ability can only be used once per game from a quick look at the faq. Anything else i'm missing?

Nym Miranda is hyper dominant, and there was a big debate over whether or not Genius would work with Trajectory Simulator. Some tournaments were allowing it, others weren't, and a recent FAQ decided that the interaction does NOT work together.

Thanks for the Reply. I assume Jumpmasters / Biggs are taking a back seat now a days?

I was super excited for guns for hire, debating if I want to drop the $$$ and get caught up on the expansions or not.

Yup. They were nerfed as well. The new hotness is the Harpoon Missile found in the "Guns for Hire" pack.

It's better now, but not perfect.

There are a lot of cool squads hitting mats that are all over the place; overall the meta is open. Yes, the OP JM5K chassis has finally been nerfed enough that it is only very good (as Dengar) but not OP as it always was previously, but Miranda's and Nym's chassis, pilot skill and modifications they run have made them the OP choices for getting the highest mathematical assurance for repeated victory one can get currently. And personally, the Ghost is an OP large base ship and the reinforce action on the Wookie Gunships that kinda just sucks fun from the game, but they can be beat with many squad options, so they aren't in the OP status like Nymranda. But, that said, there is soooooo many fun ships and squads now in all factions --if you stay clear of Miranyma-- and you can have real fun at all game play levels.

Harpoons are stupid OP, you see them everywhere. Sabine, TLT, Miranda and Nym aren't nerfed yet (still some ships to sell before they are out of stock, then FFG can take action, maybe) and are everywhere also.
OT ships non existant.

So, as always, **** competitive meta, but still a really good game to play with a bunch of houserules and/or some self-sensorship in squad building.

Don't forget the objectives format, which helps squads that would get trashed in tournament style perform well (taught my friends using objectives and we have more fun with them than we do with straight dog fighting).

Honestly it's just a game which I enjoy... play your personal meta and enjoy le game!

I think that even though the JM5K was nerfed, its still a viable ship... still a great dial and such.

Actually, I did contribute to this thread with some side objectives for standart play. Objectives are super fun !

Now that fits the current meta much better … ok, just 3 boats with one ace, but close enough and getting the fourths is just to complete a flight. If you got three, you might as well go with 4 for epic and themed lists :P

edit: Though keep dreaming on for getting 4 gunboats at this stage of release, they are nearly everywhere out of stock already. :P

Seriously though, @Phoenix5454 , both Imperial ships from Wave 12/13 are pretty good, and fair and balanced enough that they're not really needing a nerf. Quickdraw, Nym, Miranda, and the Auzituck Gunship are the most powerful stuff in this game right now. Bomblet Generators, Advanced Sensors, Push the Limit, Veteran Instincts, Harpoon Missiles, Autothrusters, and Long Range Scanners are all super powerful upgrades. All the new main characters from Episodes VII/VIII are good, like top 20 good (that's Rey, Poe, and Kylo). Despite the complaining, I think the game's in a pretty fun place! As soon as stuff comes out that can counter Bomblets and Harpoons, this game will be pretty well balanced. Welcome back!

Is the resistance bomber worth picking up? That's the only new thing I'm meh on but I feel like I'm missing something cause I'm not into bomb play really.

I'm the same as you I was hesitant about it, and I've never been a fan of running bomb lists anyways. But, I liked the idea of running a sub-faction list (resistance-only), so I picked up. Trajectory Simulator is fun to mess with, as is Crimson Specialist. But I there's a few more things I'd get first. The Phantom II, Scurrg, Guns for Hire, and Alpha Class Star Wing are overall better expansions I'd say.

After the last FAQ the game is in a good place. Harpoon is slightly under cost for what is does. I would not call it OP but it's definitely the ordnance of choice at the moment for value to cost. One thing Harpoon is doing is making it difficult for ships that rely on formation flying for survival. So any mini swarm has to be versatile with splitting up if you run into a bomb or harpoon list (which you will run into a lot right now).

I think Nymiranda got mostly leveled out by the Genius/Trajectory entry in FAQ but it is still very powerful so if you are playing in a tournament, you have to have an answer for it.

It was just so many hitpoints to chew through, and you keep getting boxed in by the bombs that those things can barf all over the board...

Well, I can't believe I was entertaining selling my collection. Glad I stopped by the forums and checked in first after my short hiatus. New expansions on order! Thanks for the replies!

Conversely, a fricking 9-year-old kid in Barcelona managed to take 2nd at a 123-person regional using an ARC-170 and three Rookiee pilots. The margins between good and bad aren't what they were anymore.
