Wing suit?

By Arionis, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, I haven't been able to find an answer for this, but,

my character, Human Bounty Hunter, (he's a brawler) goes for the Mandalorian Trials soon, and I've already drawn up my custom armor.

Here's the thing, I don't want to use a Jetpack, so, was hoping to say that the armorweave you see in the pic could be a wing suit.

Was hoping to find an armor mod that would allow that. Any thoughts on how to go about that, or if I have missed an armor modification?

To clarify, by wingsuit, I mean using the fabric pieces that are anchored on my back and shoulders to glide when descending.

Jumpsuit?

Thought the jumpsuit was just that, a jumpsuit, for pilots and the like?

Sorry, brain fried from going over all the books we have available (pretty much all but THE FORCE AWAKENS book)

Reskinned Armored Drop Suit from No Disintegrations (page 49), perhaps?

Is that an entire new armor, though, and would REPLACE my Mando armor? (I have plans for them Hard Points, is the only reason I'm hesitant to swap the armor)

I had considered that, but am also not wanting to drop points into pilotting (My ship is flown using coordination, thanks to a Neurointerface) ((It's a 290 Hawk, with class 1 Hyperdrive, amphibious conversion, and walker legs. My ship can punt people away))

Hmmm... There are jet boots that you can fluff as wings...

Random thoughts of house cooking one:

2 Hardpoint Modification (attaching it to both the top and bottom of armor takes the 2 slots)

Basic rules: Allows user to operate as a Silhouette 1 flying vehicle, similar to jetpack, only there is an ever descending glide aspect. Every turn, the pilot must make a Pilot:Planetary skill check, to attempt maneuvers to stay at their current altitude (catching thermals, dive climbing, etc). If they succeed, they are able to maintain their relative altitude above the ground (using Range Bands would be my suggestion on this, just to keep it simple. A separate range band track between them and the ground, irrespective of them and any other airborne targets). If they fail the check, they lose a range band of height, but are still able to act as normal. Things like Triumphs might allow them to even gain altitude, by catching a strong thermal, hookshoting a nearby speeder for a lift, etc. Despairs would reflect losing aerodynamic shape for a moment, and freefalling until they can regain control.

Special rules: Since the device has no direct propulsion by itself, there is no way to change speed other than diving. User can elect to increase their base speed by sacrificing a range band of height as a maneuver on a 1:1 ratio. They can also elect to gain a range band of altitude by sacrificing a point of speed as a maneuver on a 1:1 ratio.

This device is very tricky to use, so is not for a novice flyer. Damage for a bad landing would be handled using the collision/crash rules, but with an additional....eh...+2 wounds on top of the roll result, to reflect that there is no vehicle between your squishy body and the hard, hard ground.

I'm not that savvy about the hard, crunchy stuff about "handling" or whatever, so others might be better to flesh that out, but I'd probably give it a handling of -2 or -3? Which would in theory be negated by the flyer's ranks in flying related talents. Because honestly, anyone who hasn't invested a lot of XP into being an Ace pilot, really shouldn't be putting one of these on :P

That's what I've got off the top of my head. Hope that helps.

DM and I have worked out what equates to a home brew piece, a track system that releases the cloth and retracts it with the press of a button in the glove. Daunting Engineering check.

Takes 2 hard points, and uses coordination for activation.

Thank you for the suggestions, will leave this up in case anyone wants the Homebrew thing for it. (it's our first homebrew item)

Well, that's more than we had currently. I like.

You know they have a grav chute? right? a repulsor on a belt.

Grav-chutes. jump boots, rocket boots and drop suits are all stuff to do flying in one way or another. I think you want the boots, because that is what your boots look like already. :P

And the boots are what Cad Bane used.

And btw, the grav chute as backup is still important. A triumph is enough to shutdown your boots and it would be a shame to take a fall from medium or above to a quick death. ^_^

Is that a gravity belt? One of the books lists one in the item purchase list, but then DOESN'T actually have the belt in the book.

Yeah the grave chute and the gravity belt are the same item, confirmed printing error, they forgot to delete on of the items when they decided which variant to use for the game.

Alright, which book should I look in for the stats? (sorry, am not super familiar enough to find things off the top of my head)

In Suns of Fortune.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to go with the grav chute, as it's just a small back pack with repulsors, and not the glider I thought it was, so it works out perfectly, can fit under the thermal cloak (decided to use that as the cloak on the shoulders) AND saves me hard points. Thanks again everyone.
