Kindergarten....IN SPACE!

By amuller93, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So how would a kindergarten work in the star wars universe? Like how do train a teacher on a big multi racial world?

I would say they'd make ample use of holographic technology for lessons, allowing 3D education lessons for things like celestial mechanics and the like.

They'd likely have a large number of droids to help facilitate training, and possibly to work like a personal datapad.

THEY WOULD HAVE GUARDRAILS, DESPITE WHAT THE REST OF STAR WARS THINKS ABOUT SAFETY RAILINGS!!

If you are just referring to sort of a general education style of Kindergarten, I'd say it would be pretty similar to today, but with way more high tech gizmos to help make the teaching easier. Of course, since Kindergarten is often simply just herding of small children, with little in the way of actual education, I'd say lots of droids to help redirect errant child projectiles is the highest priority.

Obviously, technology would be used to improve the process. As for the diversity:

  • Despite their differences, most sentients can still capably interact with others, still learn in somewhat similar ways, and still need to be tought the same things.
  • Most worlds aren’t all that diverse anyway.
  • Under the Empire, many worlds won’t cater to the non-humans with different needs.

I currently sub as a kindergarten teacher i can just imagian trying to teach values of friendship, sharing and compassion to combo of humans, twi'lek, neimoidians and trandosians children. Meal time would be a pain in the butt

Thing is, in the Star Wars verse, that kind of thing isn't a big deal apparently. Outside of Imperials playing the species card, your average, typical Star Warsian seems to not really give to shakes whether a person has scales or feathers. I can't think of many storylines introduced in SW that revolved around racism/bigotry (that didn't involve Imperials), so the teaching them friendship, sharing, compassion shouldn't be any more difficult I think. At least not based on material presented.

Children at our fine acadamies would learn of the inherent superiority of the Human Race over the alien parasites.

They'd learn of Palpatine's triumph over the Seperatist menace and his decisiveness in dealing with the traitorous Jedi.

They'd learn to embody the values of the Empire in small, everyday ways like mocking those who would dare stand against the Empire, monitoring their friends, family and neighbors for any terrorist sympathies, and by ensuring that the weak know their place below the strong, not to mention joining their local chapter of COMPNOR.

Outside the Empire's control, schools probably function like normal schools do, with more focus on cultural studies to account for the diversity of the galaxy.

Yevethans, Yuuzhan Vong, Ssi-Ruu, Wookiees and Trandoshans, Pius Dea, Arkanians, Anzati, and Kanz Disorders do come to mind.

Dang, I thought this thread was going to be about my group.

To answer your question, it really depends on where in the whole wide galaxy one is being taught, and how much money one has. Canonical examples include droids, personal trainers, and intern service for the wealthy, and early slavery and whippings for those poor urchins in the Outer Rim. I'd say there's justification for however you want to do it in your story as the examples run the gamut.

And yet those storylines have never been a huge aspect of Star Wars. For the most part, everyone gets along, without any need for some anti-bigotry storyline to give everyone a "powerful lesson". Because the people telling stories in Star Wars, are generally more interested in telling something else. Which makes for an overall atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance for most of the species. And I said I couldn't think of MANY storylines that revolved around it. Stating "this species doesn't like this other one because of centuries of fighting' isn't the same thing as "There have been 35 episodes of *insert Star Wars medium* revolving around exploring their deep hatred for each other" . It's mentioned, and you might have it come up if a Wookie and Trando both are in the same room, but it's hardly something that permeates every aspect of Star Wars.

Wookie

You’re not going to get away with that.

Seeing as you can do nothing but pedantically, and impotently rage at me on the internet over a misspelling of a fictional name....yes I can get away with it :P

Good sir! I am as human as our Emperor himself. I merely suffer from a rare medical condition known as Revitaligo. It's the opposite of what the near humans have. Lucky tailheads. . .

This.
Minus the normal schools, because the star wars galaxy is a place for the rich. Poverty is rampant, education is rare and some even made the claim that literacy is even less common than on modern earth. Those nice little schools and kindergartens you may find on planets like Canto Bight, but even a few levels down on coruscant people have other problems, like acquiring food, water and energy. Heck during the clone wars this was even an issue for Padme's handmaiden Teckla Minnau and her family.

Does not mean that there are no normal planets either, again star wars is so big that there is room for a million worlds and still not having scratched the surface.

So Busch league?

I suppose there would be Nursery/Kindergarten droids specialized at caring for children of "thousands of species" for the general middle class.

Since droids are cheap, but not THAT cheap, I also suppose those would be bought and used by Kindergarten type places (privately, corporately or publicly owned, depending on the planet) where people could leave their kids while they go to work.
