Will Fettigator make a comeback?

By Archangelspiv, in X-Wing

After the great news that a Firespray won a major tournament, will FFG think that it is OK and wont need to change it, or will they hopefully give it some love and try to bring it back to the table?

I have always loved Fett and I have loved the mechanics with his Scum and Imperial abilities. VI Fettigator with a bit of an initiative may go a bit of the way to avoid bombs and hopefully crazy Alpha strikes. Or I am living in a pipe dream and the Firespray chassis is still overcosted and not worth the invested points.

It will depend on whether this win is a sign of something more (i.e. Boba winning more) or more of an anomaly. If the former, then we probably won't see anything new for the Firespray. If the latter, then we may see something for it in the pipeline, though I have no idea when.

In terms of raw efficiency, the Firespray is actually pretty good. 3 Att, 2 AGI, 6 Hull and 4 Shields for a cost in the 30s makes it a pretty solid platform. Additionally, Scum Boba's ability is amazing. Scum Boba has always been a dark horse (competitively), and has always been playable. I really think all it needs is the ability to do a barrel roll (which is what makes the Aux arc of the Arc and the SF work. So here's my suggestion:

Firespray MK whatever

Title, Cost: 0

You may equip Small Ship only upgrades.

You may equip one additional title.

This would let the Firespray equip Vectored Thrusters, which would be awesome on that ship, but closes out the mod slot. While the title is free, you still need to pay for the Vectored Thrusters. I tested it out, and if the Firespray does a 2-hard into a BR, it basically doesn't move, it just does a 90 degree turn. Scum Kath would be brutal with a Tail Gunner. This would also allow for things like Debris Gambit (really good on a big ship), Juke (with the native Evade), and Deadeye, which is pretty cool.

Regardless, I am sure that FFG has something in the works. The ship clearly needs the help, and Scum only has 1 Aces pack (compared to 2 for Imps and Rebs). So I'm guessing we'll see one eventually.

I also wouldn't mind if the title let you shoot Cannons out the Aux arc (as was needed from Day 1). Maybe it would cost something then?

Scum Kath throwing 5 dice HLC with tail gunner out the butt is scary...

Huh???

Someone suggested that Firesprays should be able to shoot cannons out the rear arc.

Which is fine in theory. But then you think about Scum Kath having her pilot ability of adding one attack dice when firing from the rear arc. (It doesn't specify primary weapon).

So that is 4 dice base for HLC, then 1 more for her ability for a total of 5. With tailgunner crew she is reducing your agility by one. So at range three a 3 agility ship is throwing 2 dice vs 5 of hers.

Booty of Doom.

So it's pretty easy to compare the Firespray to the Lancer. Very similar dial if you ignore the greens (get back to that), essentially equal hull/shields (the firespray comes out a little better with a shield for a hull), same stats otherwise. Both have two arcs but the lancer can move its arc. Firespray has more weapons but the lancer comes out with two illicit slots and a phenomenal title.

Lancer is in a good place competitively, mostly because of ventress/latts. But the lancer can shed stress very effectively thanks to a wide array of greens. The firespray is very limited in green moves. And the lancer can shoot sideways, which is a huge deal. The lancer is way more flexible and maneuverable as a consequence.

So in a nutshell, the firespray needs more maneuverability to be competitive.

Don't forget the lancer has 2 illicits and a title that is incredibly useful too. Even with the current bomb heavy meta, Firesprays are not an ideal bombing platform. Now the Shadowcaster title....that's something that you see some use out of. Shadowcaster just beats the Firespray in about every area.
