Playmat Options -- What's best?

By AllWingsStandyingBy, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hi, what sorts of playmats do you use?

I know FFG has the grassy field 3x3 neoprene map, and I really like that material but I'm not crazy about the image. I'd prefer a red-rocky or brownish desert sort of surface. Are there any good third party options at the 3x3 or 6x3 size that people have found?

Thanks.

I'm with you! I hope FFG will release a playmat with that kind of background because I would be much more interested in that than grassy terrain. But I've got to get a few more army pieces before I worry about a playmat. :D

3x6 yoga mat is what I use, it's not pretty but it works well.

I forget the name of the place but if you search for miniature playmats you can find nice 6'x4' mats. Just cut the edge off maybe?

Playmatz is the one, runs about $55, actually sized to 6x3

I have the ffg mats and really like them.

Getting a Gamemat.eu's Meadows 91x91 cm so I have a mat I can roll up into a tube and take with me for quick 125 skirmishes in our favourite geeky pub.

For full sized matches we use a fleece blanket ~180x120 cm with lines designating the play area drawn with a permanent marker. The added value is if you lose you can curl up under it. It's really comfy.

I like the FFG mats, already had a space set for armada/Xwing.

Based the Daqan to "sort of" match the grassy mats(2), looks good on the table.

I have a 6x3 deep cut studio mat that works very well amid had a great design.

The only issue is its really 6'1"x3'.

Which one of the deep cuts mats did you go for

I tend to like the double 3x3, but as the FFG grassy mat was not at all available in stores I bought a deepcut studios mat, and it is really top quality.

If that’s aimed at me I went with the muddy fields to match my basing. You can check out what it looks like in the video I’ve linked below.

Sorry, yes I forgot to quote. Didn’t mean to come across as passive aggressive ?

These double sided mats look really good too :o but muh wallet!

I have their 3x3 Meadows mat, which is very nice (same quality as Deep Cut Studios).

Yeah, mine literally just arrived as I was reading this. :D Can't wait to roll it out.

Edit: oh yeah, and Mel TheTerrainTutor did an overview of different mat brands.
