Thematic Expansions/ Twilight Company etc.

By dpb1298, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey y'all,

Now that we have a reasonable idea of the core forces etc. I would like to further discuss the potential in future expansions. While individual releases are great to flesh out an existing core force, I would like to offer some complementary ideas.

One interesting possibility would be a box of figures comprising Twilight Company from the first (new) battlefront book. This would be awesome and the sculpts/ alien potential is really strong (I want a Besalisk figure:)). This could easily fill-out a specialist group, and offer a new leader.

Additionally, the crew of Rogue One could be done in this way, with both Cassian and Jyn being able to double dip as leaders, and/ or an expensive specialist unit.

Other complementary forces could be, Sullustan Rebels, Jedha Partisans (awesome alien possibilities) with Saw as a leader, the Ghost Crew (reluctantly), Ewok reinforcements, Death Troopers with Krennic, hired mercenaries, Inferno Squad with Iden etc.

Alternatively, they could go the big box route (like in IA) and do a Jedha expansion (with tank, Partisans etc.), a Scarif expansion, Endor, Hoth, Sullust, etc.

Which of the two (or a combination of both) would you prefer/ like? And what other ides do you have?

...couldn't help it

In all seriousness, I'm looking forward to the Rebels crew as a specialist squad, or possibly Hera as a leader and the rest as a specialist squad (possibly Hera has to be leader in order to take the Rebels crew. I don't see Twilight Company anytime soon, but Inferno Squad might be a specialist group (I THINK Twilight Company was before the Great Canon Reset but I could be wrong). I could see Saw with Partisans, but there may be restrictions on what you can take with him (goody goodies don't want to associate with him). I'd say that it's a pretty safe bet that Rogue One characters will pop up.

I don't think they'd be able to do that many characters w/ unique abilities as a "specialist" squad without it costing so many points. I think the Ghost Crew and Rogue one crew would come out as commanders. I do think things such as twilight company and scar squadron where you can kinda give them they same ability might be more realistic for a specialist force. Even so, even scar squadron they all have different armaments. Worst case scenario is they release commander packs, IA. Rogue one commander pack and they come with commander cards. You could have Hera as a commander and she could get a droid upgrade for chopper. Same goes for Kassian and k-2. That way they can be incorporated and we could get the benefits they bring. Ie, Hera is a good leader, Kanan & Ezra are force sensitive. Sabine with explosives and Zeb as a hybrid.

....as long as more STORMIES......!!

I like the suggestion I heard elsewhere, where you split larger groups into "Specialists". For example, Ezra and Kanan would be a specialist unit. Baze and Chirrut would be another. Cassian and K2S0. ****... R2-D2 and C-3PO.

By doing it this way it allows for larger groups (the Rebels) to not be super expensive, but to also provide the unique abilities of the characters. Ezra and Kanan as one specialist group, Sabine and Zeb as another, and Hera and Chopper as a third (or potentially as a unique Commander "unit").

That's my prediction. We shall see.

Or to allow them to be attachted to squads in place of the unit leaders

Or, since the rules already have a mechanism for it, as a unit Specialist.

Nope, Twilight Company definitely belongs to the new canon (reset was April 2014, book came out in 2015 with the game).

Honestly, this whole idea is what I’m hoping”special forces” units are, although I’m guessing that they’re actually individual characters who don’t make sense as commanders. I’d really love to see unique squads in some form.

I guess that special forces can be unique non-commanders (Chewbacca for example), elite units like Deathtroopers or very specialised squads like scout snipers and are not exclusively one of those.

It’s the blush on Vader that really kills me.

Honestly, I kind of hope that the game sticks more to the generic troop type. I don’t want named characters outside of the occasional upgrade card (and even that I am not sold on) and the commanders. I’d rather not see games devolve into all these special characters vs these other ones.

I like what I’ve seen so far. I’d be ok with Jedha partisans (all unnamed but Saw as a commander), Sullastan units, rookie commandos, etc. as well as Imperial troops like navy Fleet Troopers (the guys on the Death Star etc), e-web platform troops, etc. I just don’t want to see too many named faces of big name characters from the franchise because to me, this is more about the nameless heroes on the ground.

I would like this too, but named characters sell and not all of the named characters work as commanders.

You’re probably right. Well I suppose it’s a good thing I’ll only be playing this casually outside of the FLGS so I don’t have an issue with meta building.

All I know is, if I see an Ewok mini on the table, I’m taking a blowtorch to it.
