Trajectory Simulator Without Genius

So I was just sitting down drawing on paper to get a sense of what moves will land you inside a Bomb's radius when you've launched one 5-forward. I wouldn't be surprised if this was on the forum before, but still.

Here's how it measured out for me:

  • Small Base
  • 1 straight is safe, or 2 with barrel roll back. No other straight moves will clear the blast radius.
  • No banks will be safe. 1-Bank is really close, but it seems like you just barely clip the corner safe. Additionally, any boost or barrel roll away from the bomb will clear the blast radius
    • Here's the deal: when I measured, time and time and time again, the bomb tokens' nibs are under the line of my range ruler. However, I'd been forgetting that on my range ruler, the next range begins as soon as the line begins.
  • All 1,2,3 Hard will be safe. It looks like a 3-Tallon Roll will still be safe, even when slid as far back as possible.
  • Large Base
  • No straights will be safe. A 1-straight with a barrel roll back will clear the blast radius.
  • No Banks will be safe, but any boost or barrel roll away will clear the blast radius.
  • 1 and 2 hard are safe, but 3 hard lands in the edge of the blast radius. Any boost or barrel roll away will clear the blast radius.

Just seemed good to know.

Pretty sure Small 1-bank is safe. (Only "pretty sure" because it's been a couple of weeks.) I ran through these in VASSAL, which (barring mistakes in coding) is highly accurate.

(barring mistakes in coding) is highly accurate. Makes me giggle.

Must be a mistake in the coding. Because the nubs of the bomb count for measuring distance and those are in R1.

It's really close. I almost asked "can other folks confirm this testing it?" but I checked it a few times and I was just barely clipping the nubs of the bomb.

The issue was my range ruler... the line where R1 ends and R2 begins is thick, and it's easy to get mixed up as to which side of the line is R1 and which is R2. It's a semi-translucent template, and the line was clearly over the nibs of the bomb, but the line is R2 not R1 on this range ruler.

*Boosts will get you out of the blast radius *

*laughs in tie punisher*

I couldn't work out whether a 1-bank is safe for a small-based ship either.

When I've found folks with the stand-alone range-1 rulers, those slide in between and there's a hair of wiggle room. I think some of this comes down to specific rulers. My cardboard ones from starter sets from FFG aren't consistent lengths (the total is the same, but where the R1/R2/R3 divisions fall is different). With a ruler more exactly built to spec, with the official lengths... I guess there's space.

Say, what are the exact lengths for range rulers or templates? Is there an official set of specifications out there?

Edit: The responses to that question from the rules subforum:
