headhunter??
I love Andrew, but as you say he's fragile.
Lone Wolf synergizes well with his ability. Other than that, VI as mentioned makes him a good pocket ace. Vectored Thrusters are also an option to help exploit his ability.

You can always scavenger it back at least once. Unless you're referring to the ship dying before you get the chance. Just thought I'd add a clarification that scavenger crane 100% works the first time a ship is destroyed at Range 1-2.
I run him with Crack Shot or VI to keep him cheap
Try N'Dru with Lone Wolf, Glitterstim, Clusters, GC. First encounter is reliably 2 4 dice attacks with all 4 hits (from GC, LW Reroll, and Glitter Eye-to Hits). Then LW N'Dru is a strong, if light, ship for the rest of the game.

Andrew? I've not ever heard that.
Lone Wolf N'Dru is nice, but I'd actually recommend packing Cruise Missiles rather than clusters - it's easier to keep your range from people if you can launch your attack from range 3.
Equally, scavenger crane is nice, but if you're within range 1-2 of an ally then most of your abilities shut down, and if you're at range 1-2 of an enemy unsupported by allies - frankly I'd rather have glitterstim to increase the odds of not dying.
Cluster Missiles N'Dru is a bit of a kamikaze, so there's an argument for building him with that in mind; Glitterstim/Lone Wolf makes him a right bugger to bring down before he fires, and makes a cluster missile shot hurt a lot more.
Finally, if you want a cheaper alternative to lone wolf, you can always try Fearlessness - paired with cluster missiles you're adding a bonus hit to both attacks, meaning you can toast something like a B-wing or Kimogila in one salvo with pretty average rolls.

The other alternative is Veteran Instincts and Homing Missile. The reasoning being that Clusters requires you to approach to Range 1-2, which if your other ships are engaging as well can make it difficult to proc N'Dru's ability.
With Homing Missile he can hang back and stay at long range - and a 5-dice homing missile is a useful high agility/token stack can opener that can hit almost as hard as the Clusters.

I was referring to each time. 1st time is guaranteed as you said, but afterwards it gets iffy. I would only plan on 1 payload, and be happy with every extra one thereafter.
Thank you for the Ideas, I was thinking maybe running him with Yavil, on the other side TLT'ing, and a Fenn Rau spreading the field with all these bombs and other stuff running around. I'm still thinking who to put him with, but thinking that would be fun. Maybe with an Asajj instead of Fenn.
I would recommend glitterstim over scavenger crane. Yes, you can't get the missile back. But if you lone wolf/glitterstim, N'dru is much more likely able to survive long enough to get the missile off. Plus, a re-roll, glitterstim focuses everything, and chips, you should be doing 8 hits on those 2 attacks. It's a tiny nuclear bomb, lol.
I like the VI on n'dru. Let's you get your missile off rather easily.
Tried Vectored Thrusters and EU, both great for sure but obviously more expensive than chips. You get a makeshift arc dodger with 3 reds basically, so why not.
I like clusters a lot, flanking and unloading 8 dice will hurt. Haven't tried glitterstim yet but that should hurt even more!
I am torn on the scavenger crane.
The hot shot blaster could be considered when not running missiles.
