Can Imperial Double Firesprays Work?

By HealOverTime, in X-Wing

I've been bashing around in a listbuilder for over an hour now and I can't quite make anything stick. Boba+Kath? Kath+Krassis? Discuss?

Short answer: No
Long answer: No way at all

FS 31 Imperial... Too expensive and weak in a 100/6 environment. Decent ships playing Epic.

If you fly Casual 2 pts discount makes them viable. Not Tier ships but viable.

If you can find the Such an X-wing hipster blog you can read about the travails of a nice chap named Phil trying to make them work. They just aren’t as good as scum ones, but they aren’t terrible.

Krassis Trelix — Firespray-31 36
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Intelligence Agent 1
Harpoon Missiles 4
Bomblet Generator 3
Andrasta 0
Ship Total: 48
Kath Scarlet — Firespray-31 38
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Tactician 2
Harpoon Missiles 4
Long-Range Scanners 0
Slave I 0
Ship Total: 48

Someone smarter than me can optimize this list but they can carry Harpoons and get decent mods so that's a start. Left several slots blank but I think this is where you'd start with the double Imp Firespray (sorry boba).

Kath Scarlet (38)
Daredevil (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Rebel Captive (3)
Bomblet Generator (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Andrasta (0)

Krassis Trelix (36)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Tactician (2)

Total: 100

Firesprays have been gradually accruing small buffs and are getting nearly there now. Unfortunately the Imperial Firesprays are all worse than the Scum versions, and the Scum crew options are usually better as well.

What the others have said. However ...

...if in doubt, add a ship. Unlike Scum, the Empire can field 3 Firesprays. Having an extra ship, an extra shot and an extra ten health on the board is probably a better option than throwing a lot of upgrades on the named Imperial Firespray pilots.

Or you could take two Bounty Hunters with Tail Gunner or Tactician and a Palpshuttle with Electronic Baffle. It won't be incredibly competitive, but the sheer amount of health you'd be running could be enough to cause problems for a lot of builds.

Simply put.

They are vastly inferior due to lack of rerolls/modifications that the Scum versions have.

It is challenging to say at least.

Yeah, better pilot abilities, better EPT (Fearlessness), better crew (Dengar, K4, Zuckuss, 4Lom, ect). Better wingmen - Asajj, Nym, Dengar, ect.

Anything is possible if you believe in it hard enough!

Except this. This is not possible.

I actually don't like fearlessness on firesprays. I tried a bunch of games with it, but on average it got used once a game, usually on the first engagement. And 2 is usually the max. Sometimes not at all. Crackshot is more reliable for the same price.

I'm getting a Firespray soon. It has all of the upgrades to be great, it's just the cost. I think it'll do well with my Upsilon build. Maybe as follows:

Kath Scarlet — Firespray-3138

Marksmanship3

"Mangler" Cannon4

Ysanne Isard4

Harpoon Missiles4

Ship Total: 53

Starkiller Base Pilot — Upsilon-class Shuttle30

Advanced Sensors3

Mara Jade3

Recon Specialist3

Comm Relay3

Weapons Guidance2

Kylo Ren's Shuttle2

Ship Total: 46

Maybe you should give it a go again Mark. The guy who just won a regional with Scum Boba said Fearlessness was key to his success.

As far as imperial firesprays, I would say test Boba out as a bomber. His ability gives you some interesting options in that role.

Kath is gimmicky, but can cause some issues, especially paired with some harpooning.

Krassis... probably just bad.

What....is comm relay even doing for the shuttle?

I always had fun with "Dancing Firesprays." Essentially Boba and Kath with Expert Handling. Fettigator with Expert Handling was very difficult to pin down. The trouble was always offense (and well, defense.) You get 2 shots per round, so Kath usually has gunner to compensate, or to possibly double stress a target.

And for less cost, x7 defenders will outlast Firesprays all day long, unfortunately. But if you want the rear arc, Quickdraw with lightweight frame is better than a firespray, again at less cost. So you can try to make double firesprays work, there are just better options for the points.

Still not sure why FFG made LWF for ties only. Would be an excellent use of the mod slot on the firespray.

That and linked batteries not being small ship only would have combined to make firesprays pretty competitive.

Maybe due to IGs or some other future ship that might pose a problem?

When I pick up a Firespray my first Imperial build will be:

Kath Scarlett

Slave I, Veteran Instincts, Harpoon Missiles, Tail Gunner, Guidance Chips, Extra Munitions

Firespray has been lost in the action economy battle. Imperial one especially so. No K4 or Dengar for re-rolls. No outlaw tech for focus on k-turns. No pilot ability to increase damage or re-roll offensive or defensive dice.

An updated title with either a system slot (FCS would be great) or adding on a cost reduced engine upgrade (2 points for boost being on action bar) would do wonders. Getting an engine upgrade and autothrusters for a total of 4 points would give them a lot more life.

I'm going to give this a shot at my game night, just for funsies. It's not a double Firespray list, but it should be annoying.

Imperial Boba + VI + Tactician + EU + Andrasta + Bomblet

Omega Leader + VI + Advanced Optics

Dutchess + VI + LWF + Title

I have the points to swap Tactician for Navigator for a Fettigator build. But that's a full 100 points.

Sorry. Brain fart. Meant to put Sensor Cluster.

It would probably work against - the Fly Casual Nice Guy.

I fixed my Bounty Hunter cards to have as many harpoons as possible. Opponents never really check :P
