Vader flanks. Tie Fighters come in loose. NO FORMATION. Evade at first. Try to have first guy get in bumping position. Vader uses Evades to get a 5 die flanking hit with Crit thrown on top.
If they gun for Vader, then run with him as they Chase. Let the Ties get in R1 and cause bumping nightmare. Lots of R1 shots from Ties did most of the damage in every round.
Let Vader do a couple of big hits and he should avoid the fight. Let him Chase you, but bump into Tie Fighters blocking. It's OK if some of your Tie Fighters bump. Position them all over so that they can't go anywhere but bumping into Ties. Let them block and knife fight.
People say Tie Fighters are useless now, but I disagree. Except blanking out, 3 Green and a Focus/Evade aren't easy to one shot. Move them around so they can't focus fire. Most lists have few ships and easy for 5 Ties to muck that up. Ships without actions aren't all that.
Last match was vs Vader and RAC. It came down to Vader off. Whomever rolled bad green dice first lost. He did and I won!

I'm assuming you've tried these variants too. Which one do you think is best? All seem equally fun!
P.S. too me, right now crack black mini swarm with vader seems best because you can split up to avoid harpoons and still have potency.
I happen to hate Howlrunner. Forces your Ties into formations. Dislike them. I go for bumping Ties and getting R1 shots vs actionless ships. Lots of Ties that close do most of the damage each game.
I've always loved Vader + mini swarm. Happy with Swarm Leader.
47 minutes ago, Flaren48 said:EDIT: i was thinking about fearlessness. But i don't know, deadeye is always a good thing because what if you are too distant from the targeted one? Also having a focus can be helpful if you roll 2 eyes on evades for example, in the first engagement
Sure, deadeye is the safe way to play that list, crack shot is the high risk-high reward way in this case.
Fearlessness would not synergize with the missiles (being r2-3) and also at lowish PS and no repositioning I would not count on getting range 1 shots. Crack shot on the other hand is guaranteed to cause 1 more damage, regardless of range.

With Swarm leader vader did you have any problems keeping PS 10 ships in arc? Esp something like PS 10 Rey with engine upgrade? My favorite Vader variant to fly is Intensity Vader with SnapBlacks but I just feel forced into VI Vader instead.

My Vader did a lot of Kturns when I faces a PS10 Vader. If you still have Ties, use them to block.
Nobody mentioned...

I'm not sure a 4-ship list really constitutes a swarm, even with the qualifying prefix of 'mini'. Nevertheless, here are some I have tried, heard of, or come up against:

She's a lot more impressive (and still acceptably cheap) in a Heavy Scyk with Linked Battery.
I half wonder about a squad of the scum mini-aces - Z-95s, M-3As, HWK-260s, and Quadjumpers. You can easily get a 4-ship squad, but I'm not sure if you can pack in a 5-ship squad.

Holy Nachos! I never heard of that one! Dang, I like it! That's pretty cool on her due to her reroll ability. Hmmm....I was using a Tractor Beam on her, but I'll have to think about that. Not sure as the TB really messes with people.
What is a mini swarm parameters, really? I always used it to describe 3-5 cheap ships... usually added to a heavier hitter (ace or pocket ace).
Interesting Scum idea. Could be fun.

More or less what I'm used to, too. 5 ships with some decent beef to them is 'heavy swarm' to me, whilst 40-60 points on 'lighter' ships that are less than 20 points is more miniswarm to me.

Nice ideas.
The Scyks are a bit of a weak point, but the other three ships are pleasantly capable. Zuvio can have adaptability, too, to give him PS8 and let him match bomblets with Miranda Doni.

I originally had Linked Sunny, but points were too tight.
So now that we have Advanced Optics have any of you tried yet:
Omega Squadron Pilot, Crackshot, Advanced Optics x 5?
No. It's definitely on my list to try, though. I've played quite a few games with 'epsilon squadron' beforehand, and would like to try my hand with the advanced optics TIE/fo.

now with the new title, add free 0 or 1 point upgrades to taste
i actually had a legit miniswarm that until the new flux of aoe damage it was pretty dominant. I built it to specifically screw over Fenn, whom was in every freakin' list at the time.
Major Rhymer 35pts
Snapshot (2)
Hull Upgrade (3/2) (swapped to LWF when that came available)
TIE Shuttle (0)
Tactician (2)
Ops Specialist (3)
Black Sqd Tie Fighter 16pts x4
Snapshot (2)
99pts with LWF.
Rhymer beefs up snapshot to R2 so he can stress-snap people. Tons of snapshots, and with OpSpec i practically didnt care if my snapshots did no damage - it meant someone got a free focus!
Problem: it had to be in a somewhat tight ball, so the influx of bombs and now 'poons kinda butchered it. Made me sad because it scared the pants off so many "aces" lol
edit: Oh, and Fenn auto-died to it every single game i faced him out of dozens. He either dove right into 4-5 snapshots, flew really wide so he basically did nothing for several turns, or got stress-snapped at R2...which is the WORST PLACE he could possibly be

No need for offensive modifiers for the Tempests, so they're free to Evade and feed Vader. Four points left for Engine Upgrade, or whatever else you want.

•Ahsoka Tano (17) - TIE Fighter
