Just got this, had a question.

Hello all,

I just got this from a local player who had extras. I got the base, extra dice, golems, reanimates, Lord Hawthorn, and Maro. I am trying to use this with a table top group I run at the school I teach at. I want to provide some diversity for different lists (100-200 pts) I want to stick to just the two factions i have (for now) what additional add ons should i prioritize? Crossbowmen, Deathknights, command sets? Which one provides great upgrades or versatility? Thanks

Command packs offer a bunch of upgrades and give some great options for both sides.

First thing would be the infantry command for both sides.

Then I would lean towards any missing unit types... DK for Waiqar and Crossbowmen for Daqan.

Then build up multiples of expansions to get the specific unit upgrades.

My personal goal in collecting has been to acquire enough of each unit to be able to field the largest size available to that unit. This allows for running multiple smaller units of the same type without going too far into over buying. The one exception has been an extra DK so I can run 2 2x2 DK units in one list.

Command packs for versatility.

If you want to do 200 point games, another base set. You'll have a hard time getting all the way there with what you listed. You should be able to run 150 point games, though.

Actually, let me qualify what I said a bit. That's what I would do. It may not be what you should do. The one thing that I definitely would put at the top of the list, no matter what, is one command pack per faction. The range of options it gives you gives you the most bang for your buck, and new figures are cool, anyway. After that, though, it will depend on a few things.

First off, how much is budget a concern? You said this was for a school, is it something that comes through the school budget, or are you paying out of pocket? If it's a school budget, that's going to limit your options considerably, and that will be the primary determining factor. If you can afford another base set, that's probably the way to go, just for the figures-to-cost ratio.

If money is not a concern, then you're probably best to play with what you have (plus command packs) for a few games, and see what directions your players would like to head in, and let that be your guide.

There's a pretty basic reason for that. Each player is going to have his own strategies, his own tactics, and his own favorite units. I've been a playtester, so I had a chance to play with each of the units currently showing as in development or at the printer right now. I'm a natural Latari player, and my son is a natural Daqan player. When he needs to play Waiqar, I know that I will face death knights, essentially no matter what, but probably not large groups of reanimates, and also probably not wraiths. When I end up playing Waiqar, you may or may not see death knights, but you're probably going to see wraiths and you may see large blocks of reanimates. We have different play styles, so we have different needs. Your group is probably going to be the same way, so it's impossible to tell right now what will give you the best return for your time and money.

Thanks for all the imput. It seems command packs are at the top of the list. This game is being bought with my money and I was lucky to get the lot I got for about 1/3 of retail. I am currently painting all the figures so as to really excite the kids when it hits the table and I love to paint the figures. I am hoping to try this game out at home this weekend. I have noticed the community is very helpful.

thanks
