Greedo and the Super Poon!

By JasonCole, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, I'm looking at Greedo and Boba Fett riding shotgun with Dengar on Boskk's YV-666. N'dru is out there doing N'dru things.

If I shoot a harpoon w/ Ndru @ PS9, and it hits assigning the condition to, lets say Dash in his Outrider, but somehow I've only removed one shield, so Dash is at 4s5h. Bossk then shoots his Mangler cannon at Dash at PS6. The roll is hit blank focus, I use dengar to reroll the blank for a second focus, and spend my focus token so that I have 3 hits. Mangler converts one hit to a crit. Dash only evades one damage, for a hit and a crit (((but we haven't assigned damage yet))). The uncancelled crit triggers harpooned, no question, so Harpooned! triggers, and damage spashes around, and we go to deal the face down damage card. HERE'S MY QUESTION:

The face down damage card is from the Harpooned! condition, but it's also during the attack. Is it considered part of the attack where Greedo is concerned? He says "The first time you attack and defend each turn, the first damage card is dealt face up."

Greedo is kinda clutch here, if this works.

I think the card is dealt by Harpooned not by Bossk so this wouldn't work.

I’m biased, as I want this to work based soley on the fact that I have tried time & time again to make Greedo work.

Its... Murky at best. I could argue either way for it, based on the condition occuring during the attack but then not directly being damage dealt by the attack.

Harpoon isn't a part off your attack or defence. It s An effect happening during your attack. So i don't think it Will stick

Just a general writing tip overall, besides just here, try not to add unnecessary detail. It makes it harder to read and tell what you'r asking. A play by play of every step leading up to harpooned triggering doesn't add anything all that matters is Harpooned went off. I'm not being snarky just giving you some constructibe criticism.

Does triggering Harpooned with Greedo on board make the Harpooned damage card face up?

I'm going to disagree with spaced and say yes on this one. The relavant part of Greedo says "The first time you attack...The first damage card dealt is dealt face up." The damage card is dealt during the attack, I don't think the source of the card matters in this case. This would be similar to the ruling that if you tractor beam someone onto an obstacle and they roll a crit it can still trigger Boba Fett crew because they were dealt a face up card during the attack.

Boba Fett is a definite yes, whether or not Greedo works. I'm thinking of a situation when a ship has Major Hull Breach, and Harpooned! is triggered, so the Harpooned damage would be dealt face-up.

Greedo... I think I'm slightly with @sharrrp on this, but can easily see the other side. Both are really close.

I think there's an interesting broader question over how to treat things which happen during the process of an attack, but aren't part of the attack. Could Boba Fett or Jess Pava reroll the die for a Major Explosion they just took? I really think they shouldn't, personally. Which means I should probably view Greedo as unable to flip the Harpooned! damage card face-up.

With regards to asteroids, if Greedo's ship tractor beams someone onto a rock and they roll a regular hit, could he cause that to be dealt face-up?

Fett only works if Greedo works. Greedo working means that the face down from the Harpooned is played face up. Greedo doesn't require a "hit or crit", just that a face down damage card, specifically the first face down damage card during an attack, is played face up. I guess the caveat is whether or not Harpoons is within the timing of the attack, or if it sets up its own separate timing chart.

I guess my thinking here is that I'm generating ways to make Fett crew better, and do horrible things to other lists, like eject Palp, trash Dash's HLC, and wipe Miranda's TLT off her, take away Nym's Bomblett, or steal Kylo's Advanced Sensors, etc etc... It doesn't seem like this combo would be TOO hard to set up.

And the micro timing windows expand even more... for ease of play I would say since it is during the attack Greedo triggers, because Harpooned! states "When you are hit by an attack if there is at least 1 uncanceled critical result...". This causes a interrupt of sorts in the dealing of damage, but not really any different than what Major Explosion does during the dealing of critical damage cards.

So...

Ship A (with gredo) shoots Ship B (with Harpooned!)
Ship A rolls 2 hits and 1 crit
Ship B roll 1 evade
Ship B suffers 1 uncanceled hit and crit
Harpoon trigger is met
Deal splash damage
Deal 1 facedown damage card to Ship B
facedown is flipped face up due to Greedo
Resolve faceup
Deal remaining 1 facedown damage card and 1 faceup damage card (assuming no shields remain), otherwise, remove shields.
resolve faceup (if dealt).
