Business, for a few PCs [Far Horizons]

By Rithuan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Greetings,

I have a question related to Far Horizon rules (page 81) regarding business and homestead. I have two players in my group really interested in making business.... like everywhere they land! It's really fascinating to see how they try to sail in the sea of opportunity. Taking this in consideration, I wanted to offer them a concrete mechanic: a business, as a formal investor firm.

The only problem I foresee is that there is only 2 players interested. Should I use the business rules and only involve in the obligation (and benefit like NPCs and skill focus) these two character? What happen if 2 or more characters want to open a Repair shop? or a blue/green milk farm?

I want to offer a good solution to my players, but I don't want to make the game unplayable or make a rule that will eventually break the game. Thanks for the answers!

Just create the business as if those two PCs are the only ones in the party.

Since starting a business costs 50,000 credits and 5 Obligation, I'd say go ahead and let them do it. If they've got the credits and want to leave behind a string of dangling plot threads, there's no downside to you or the other PCs, assuming the group is divvying money up in an equitable manner.

Also, since the temptation exists to laden the new business with upgrades at the expense of Obligation, the group as a whole is going to get close to the 100 Obligation "can't spend XP" threshold pretty quickly. Anyone with an Obligation like Criminal or Bounty is going to have a fun time trying to lose pursuit with a group of convenient informants and/or hostages left behind at the last port of call. That's not to say don't do it -- this sounds like an amazing story.

This is the kind of PC I feel Lando would be.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'll keep an open discussion with the players, in order to avoid 1 business every 2 players.
