HotAC - AI and multiple Stress Token

By Cyberstorm, in X-Wing

Hi all,

perhaps you can help me with that. I have looked into the HotAC FAQ and rulebook and couldn't find a definite answer. It seems to me, that when a AI ship has 2 or more Stress Token they will behave like a player ship in terms that they remove 1 Stress instead of their action step.

However I was thinking about a combot of BTL Y-Wing with Twin Laser Turret (TLT) and R3-A2 which would potentially give 3 stress to an enemy each attack. Granted only at Range 2-3 and only in the firing arc, but that means that they don't have actions for three turns.

For myself I intent to combo with Farlander Pilot Skill and immediately use up that Stress as Attack Focus token and also add in Wes Pilot Skill to remove up to three positive token from my target on the turn I stress the AI.

Sounds to me pretty over, even if it is an endgame build with those skills. However I want to make sure I have that AI stress management right.

Best Regards,

Cyb

I think the TLT attack is considered as only one attack for various game effects (for example Miranda's regeneration) and that includes R3-A2.

Correct.

However, BTL allows you to do it twice, once for primary and once for tlt.

@Cyberstorm you are correct that, unless they do a red move, AI ties will always clear one stress per turn. You could lock down an ace like this to ruin their day. However with your stress pile you may find it difficult to stay on target, and no defensive mods for you could be problematic if you end up the choice AI target

Sort-of-correct. Twin Laser Turret is two separate attacks but share their "before attacking" and "after attacking" steps.

Twin Laser Turret doesn't 'declare' the target of its second shot - it just fires again at the same target. Hence you have no "When you declare the target of your attack" step to trigger R3-A2 off of.

Correct. Note that it'll only mess up their actions, not their manoeuvres, but it's still potentially a worthwhile trick, especially against aces.

Fortunately there are ways around this in HotAC that there aren't in 'normal' X-wing - if you plan to play Stresshog, picking up Adrenaline Rush and/or Wired as your first EPTs are not a bad investment, for example, or (as noted) Keyan Farlander's pilot ability to give you a way to burn stress when firing.

Keyan's a pretty expensive ability - Braylen Stramm's is less reliable but it ain't half cheaper (it's one reason why the ARC-170 has replaced the stresshog Y-wing in a lot of people's squads).

Don't forget Hobbie!

Thanks guys! I missed the "single attack declaration" part of the TLT.

Btw: Anyone heard of the rule that AI gets damage for stress at the end of turn. Our host at the first HotAC campaign introduced it this way (so a Tie would get 1 damage at the end of turn if it wouldn't be able to reduce stress to 0 in one turn). Now hosting my own round I have read through the rules and didn't find that anywhere. Was he introducing a house rule here without mentioning it or did I overlook something?

Looks house ruled. I've never found that entry in past runs of the campaign.
