Ding dong the witch is dead

By asters89, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So a list I was planning to fly this list at regionals but had second thoughts seeing Nymranda running rampant, of particular concern was the nym genius bomb alpha strike.

So how do you think this would stack up:

Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Colonel Vessery (35)
Juke (2)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)

Total: 99

I'm hoping that it has the durability (defenders at least, QD gives opponents that classic headache) to soak up damage from imperial high PS alpha strikes and then the durability to out last those same aces (similarly to how they could in their heyday). I have the bid over QD+3 and can close range and get behind the gunboats with defenders. Haven't seen many wookies around recently but hopefully the same applies there.

Don't feel confident about Dash Poe, the current iteration seems to run at 99 points which is pushing to try to drop a point to move QD after Poe at least.

Personally I‘d prefer optics over primed thrusters on QD, and I‘d rather ditch MkII. But I know that some disagree, and I can see both sides.

Other than that it certainly looks solid!

Maybe a more helpful post now that I think a obout it, regarding Harpoon squads, like 3bqd:

there are more and more PS2 ships, and that opens the option for your opponents to PS kill your Delta. You will very likely spend both tokens on the first Harpoon and walk away with 0-1 damage. The next Harpoon will deal 2-3 damage, each. So it looks pretty likely to me that you lose your Delta to 3 Harpoons before the Delta shoots back.

That trade is worth it. You then have 2 more turns to hunt them down, precent new TLs and force them to slam away instead of reloading or shooting.

The same is true with high PS alpha, but that might target Vessery instead.

with these thoughts: how do you plan to approach Harpoon lists?

Pretty much rule of 11 (aka close to 16 lengths asap)

I love Vessery and QD. But in this meta, I do agree that Deltas can be vulnerable. What if you upgraded to TIE/D Expertise Vessery (Tractor Beam, probably), ditching the engine, and primed thrusters off QD, and you can then afford Omega Leader.

Fair points on the delta I think. Having it PS killed before it can do anything would be a bit of a waste. How about this as a potential replacement:

Rho Squadron Veteran (21)
Deadeye (1)
Harpoon Missiles (4)
Guidance Chips (0)

Total: 26

It's 2 points cheaper which can either be added to the bid or used for something else (extra munitions on the rho or maybe even dropping a point somewhere else and losing the bid to take a harpoon/cruise on QD??). Obviously gives a little less in the way of tankiness but would definitely hit harder....

Yes, I do like that Rho. I like OL more, but that's rather a matter of playstyle.

I wonder... with PS 2 making a comeback, is now the time for the Onyx Squadron Pilot? 3/3/3/3/3 for 30 points!  :P

Another question for the hive mind - how do you feel about lightweight frame on QD?

Historically it was the card that turned up QD's power level from good to great. But with the increase in big alpha strikes recently is it still worth taking?

Now the PS wars are back and there is downward pressure on bids (plus we need to find points to missiles) is it worth saving the 2 points and increasing QDs alpha strike with guidance chips (maybe using the points saved on adv optics?).

In the current meta I feel like if an alpha strike list decides they want to nuke QD then they will be able to do it LWT or not. What do you think?

YES. LWF on QD everyday.

I flew 2 boats and 2 deltas in a regionals a week ago. Good list, but as stated above.

The increased amount of ps2 kills them.

This is a go to list I usually have in my bag, should suit you.
