Is anyone planning to buy two or more Chimaera expansions to add additional Kuat and Cymoon cardboard and ship cards, Gauntlet Squadrons, and upgrade cards like Hardened Bulkheads, Intensify Firepower, and Seventh Fleet SD to your collection? I'm debating whether it would be worth the investment since a second painted Chimaera for me would most likely end up on shelf collecting dust.

I don't think it'd be worth it. I can't think of any cards in there i would make a lot of use of more than one copy of that the set itself doesn't already include more than 1 card of. it coming with 3 of each card/cardboard for the ships kind of defeats the purpose(which was actually awesome of FFG imo, they knew we already had 1/2 isd's).

I know I'll end up wanting more than 2 Gauntlets...

Having said that, I'd be lying if i didn't point out that i have every intent on flying a "fun" 3 isd motti list shortly after i pickup the xpac.

I don't see anything in the Chimera expansion I need more of than what it already contains. Remember, the box already comes with enough ship cards and bases for 3 Star Destroyers. The only things left are upgrade cards, and most of the ones you want multiples of appear to also be in the Profundity expansion.

The only thing I see in this wave that I am considering diabolical plans for multiples of is maybe the Heavy Ion Batteries and maybe also the Ordnance Pods. Both of which seem to be exclusive to the Profundity, not the Chimera.

but why? I can't see ANY reason to have more than 2 of them in a list. Like i keep looking at them and while i totally understand fielding the named I just do not know why i would want 3+ of them.

I have 3 ISDs already, so that would be a 5 ISD campaign.

The Chimaera will be my sixth ISD. I like to play thematically, and I want to replicate the Battle of Atollon. So, the extra Seventh Fleet upgrades would be useful.

It interests me that FFG seemed to have designed this expansion so as you would only need to buy one, but it only comes with two gauntlets. Is FFG trying to limit the usage of gauntlets by making an expansion people don't want to buy more than one of?

I could see w anting more than 3 advances warning or bulkhead cards and 2 7th fleet cards is abyssmal (you need 3-4 for this to even be worth taking and even then your isds are going to want avenger relentless soveign or xhinera more)

I still doubt its worth a 2nd purchase

Likely but let's get real here, if someone can find a super list with nothing but dengar and gauntlets, they'll buy every chimaera pack to run every gauntlet they need.

Let's do some reflection here: If you can afford 6 ISD models. AND that makes you happy (you actually found something that does make you happy, congrats), you're pretty lucky. I bet 6 ISDs looks awesome. How about we see some mass ISD pics when the Chimaera arrives.

I'll have 3. That's the most I'll ever need in 400 points, likely even in 500 its and to support another side.

3 is a good number. That's a typical detachment I think. 3 ISDs is a fleet.

...hey Dras, maybe you might want to 'wait'...

At leat until they release more fighter packs that may include fighters that have the Raid ability.

Remorse is a terrible terrible thing.

But I do think you're onto something with your line of thought. When employed in small numbers, these Raid ships are a minor nuisance. But when employed in large numbers balanced against points/efficiency - these guys are going to be a major disruption to fleet builds.

Suddenly, you're focusing on washing off these pesky Raid tokens with your own tokens that 'could' otherwise have been used to optimise one of your carefully thought out combos.

Ehh? Want to chuck away that Engineering token to get rid of that Raid? Or were you going to save it and use it to repair something from 1 HP?

...unless I've got it all wrong!

Chimaera will be no 4 for me. Still too few for a proper Endor fleet...

For me it depends on how many 7th fleet titles are in the pack. If it's 2, I'll have to get another.

I am already planning to post a pic or two of Thrawn's Atollon fleet after I pick up the expansion.

I'm happy to reflect with you. My interest in thematic play, using Canon and Legends resources as inspiration for builds and battles, began as a way for me to enjoy Armada by myself as I live in an area that is devoid of other players. I have also really come to enjoy the thematic aspects of the CC expansion, and though I had a decent number of ships in my collection when the expansion was released, I came to find I needed additional ships to really enjoy the full 6 fleet scenario. So, my fleets have gotten bigger. I plan my expansion purchases and I set aside some money every week into my Armada fund. Some of my ships have been given to me as gifts too. So yeah, maybe I am lucky. But as content as I am with my thematic play, I'm looking forward to the day when I can play real people on a regular basis. And, they don't need to bring anything as I'm happy to share.

I'm rarely able to play with other people too. Especially for competitive. I really want to do more thematic stuff though. But of like own-characters, instead of every famous face in the galaxy.

I'm thinking of doing a CC type campaign where you're only allowed to start with small Imperial ships of a literally random assortment, with a literal random assortment of upgrades (including tons of crap!) and you gotta make do. And random squadrons.

I'm planning to launch a thematic Armada blog this spring. Everything from reference materials to creating custom campaigns. I am hoping that players who like the thematic aspects of the game will find it useful.

indeed getting 2. if nothing else for those sweet fighters. If i do not get another CC campaign in, I will need to find a way to squeeze all these ISD's into a game.

I will be getting at least two. For the Empire I have at least one ship for every title, and have not decided yet how the 7th fleet title works for this, so at least two.
