Overload Pulse confirmation

By dominosfleet, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm about 99% on this question but i want to ask it anyway just to confirm. overload pulse happens after tokens are used correct? I.E. two isd's firing head to head, 1 avenger with OP and the other a sloane carrier. The game was going heavily my way(and finished that way too) but my opponent was super nice, i said "that actually happens after" and he didn't agree so we double checked with a neighbor instead of a judge (only 1 judge at the event) who agreed with him. Again, my opponent was a great guy, and it had literally 0 impact on the overall game(my isd still lived), so i just went with it.

I'm right right?

1: avenger fires, I use my defense tokens, he then activates crit and flips my remaining tokens

or his interpretation

2: avenger fires, he activates crit tokens, I'm unable to use any tokens because he flipped them.

again this is ALL in 1 attack from his ISD, no double arc(where it absolutely would work)

Criticals happens after defense tokens are spent.

its part of the attack process.

Roll and modify dice.

defender spends tokens.

attacker declares critical

damage calculated

If OP happened beforehand, OPVenger would be... well... OP...

ugh, my urge not to be wrong lost against my want to not be a D-bag. "I know this is going to be a 10-1 but lets get a judge over here just to make sure i win a bit more" seemed pretty harsh. it could have EASILY not gone that way if his rolls had been a bit better(he managed two rounds of close range shots at my isd that way) but i had an eng dial up and a token so i healed plenty to keep it from being an issue. He was such a nice guy/good opponent but at a regionals i should have prob called him out on it just for future games he played. /shrug.

As someone who is also very particular about rules, but likes keeping friends, I would say that it is good to call the TO, but first make it very clear(with a smile and courteous words) that you are only intending to ascertain rules, and not in anyway trying to press advantage through kinks in the rules. no matter who is right/wrong, both parties learn something :)

I also often jump back to the rules questions here by searching for the issue on Google, or having an e-copy of the faq to swipe to, during our casual matches. But that may be slightly more difficult to do in a Tournament requiring speed.

For a second I was like "when did I have Overload Pulse?" Then it became "When did YOU have OP?" Then i realized you had other opponents than me, haha

na, i totally would have called you on it, i feel like you're assuming a lot by me saying "nice guy/good opponent" there ;) . Obviously I kid, you were awesome to play against too. This guy was game three and it was really just a case of EVERYTHING nearly going my way from dice to fleet match up to my exp vs 2 isd lists. Your and my game were SUPER close, I feel like both of us were passing out by that point( i know i was). If things had gone even slightly different in any way it could have flipped the scores easily.

Yep, you were def in the top 4 of my favorite people i played against that day ;). Seriously though it was awesome to meet you guys, sorry sleep deprived me kept saying "podcast", I was mentally broken by that point.

Edit: Thinking about it that Eng dial round 5 or 6( i don't remember) saved me in our game too. I was stupid lucky with the timing on those.

It's 1.

Basically every new player thinks it's 2 when they first read the op card. But it just doesn't work that way.

Yep, I made this mistake just a few months ago. Sat there for about 5 minutes, thinking OP was the best card ever, then I decided to reread the correct attack process. Oh well. It still has its place.
