New FAQ

They didn't. They clarified that Sabine works exactly like Sabine has been played and ruled at every major event since she came out.

...(still broke tho)

As far as I can tell, there's nothing meaningful in this FAQ other than the Genius/Trajectory thing, which only exists because of the whole fight between the judges. Which, as a number of people said, is why the judges were right not to listen to the devs - if FFG wants a rule, this is how they should do it. But it should be an errata - RAW, there's no justification for their FAQ there.

eh, it was played that way since she was released. This just clarifies that it is correct to do so.

So we can put the rogue TO talk to rest now, right?

I dunno. Are they going to rule against the FAQ because somebody heard a rumor at FFG again? Harpoons still seem very powerful.

That was fast.

However Sabine got even better.

Torani Kulda nerfed. WHY? :(

They just rushed this FAQ out in a hurry to legitimize the rule changes for the Krayt Kup Super World Series Playoff Bowl Extravaganza Spectacular this weekend.

Before people get too in a tizzy about cards not being fixed, have we put the thought out there that the "eratta" is why FFG has to take long with LFL to get changes approved? The errata is eventually turning into a change in the way the physical product is printed, so somebody at LFL probably has to look at it. FAQ clarifications are just the developers ruling on how extant cards should be interpreted. There is no eratta in this FAQ as far as I can see, just clarifications. Given there certainly seems to be quite a bit of ink involving harpoons, TLT and even a little sabine, it may be that actual Eratta is coming, just FFG is leaving it out for now to get the FAQ printed faster.

That wasn’t a nerf but a clarification. Some people didn’t understand that zero is a valid number even though it has been ruled that way several times.

Not nerfed, clarified. In the way you can spend a TL to reroll 0 dice.

They're just continuing their weird FFG logic of "pick 0 = legal choice" from Destiny. I for one am ok with it - it means you have a very powerful ability that you have to set up so that either option hurts your opponent.

Apparently Frank and/or Alex ruled that his ability did not work against IWSYTDS at both GenCon and US Nationals, so this is a change of ruling.

you mean sometimes random developer rulings don't match the FAQ? Who knew that was possible?!?

Dark Side requires you to suffer critical damage, not specificaly have an uncancelled crit reault.

That's the way Harpoons should be too. Why do they have it work differently?

It’s not just Destiny. It’s a common game mechanic.

Well, I'm much more inclined to pick up a bsf bomber now.

I have a question on the following...

Q: During the Combat Phase, when does a ship become the active ship?

A: The process occurs in the following manner: the appropriate player nominates one of their eligible ships at the current initiative value. This ship then becomes the active ship, and it may begin the process of performing an attack by measuring range to valid targets (see "Timing Chart for Performing an Attack" on page 8).

I've have previously played when I have multiple ships of the same pilot skill I measure range from any of those eligible ships to valid targets and then chose what order to activate them in.

My Question: Was I playing this wrong before and has this new faq changed the above described interaction?

Don't feel bad for playing this wrong... I've seen LOTS of people play this wrong.

But going all the way back to the Rules Reference (Combat Phase, page 9)... only one ship is active at a time in Combat Phase.

I agree. You'd be surprised though at how many Destiny players hate it though (or maybe you wouldn't... I think I recognize you from the Destiny forums)

It existed long before Destiny. Garven Dries had this ruling ages ago didn't it, which is where a lot of this started from.

So, I posted this elsewhere but, anyone else think that, at least in the case of TLT and TS, the rulings still aren’t really technically correct. To be clear, I’m not disappointed, just find it interesting that both are basically “because we say so” with some words trying to explain it. Probably shows they couldn’t actually errata yet, maybe?

My guess is that Frank just likes Harpoons THAT much :)

Nah, they're just managing their so-called "FAQ" like they do in Destiny:

player: "how does this work?"

other player: "RAW, like this. But it feels wrong."

FFG: "it actually works like this..."

second player: "that seems backwards from what the card says. Why?"

FFG: "because we said so."

players: "ok. I guess we'll just remember that."

new player: "ok, I'm ready to play!"

old player: "you know that card doesn't work like that, right?"

new player: "why the heck not?"

old player: "FFG said so."

new player: "[censored]!!!"

42 minutes ago, Rexler Brath said:

Because the card text is worded differently. It says uncanceled critical result not suffer a critical damage.

You'd think somebody named Rexler Brath would know their crits!

probably the lamest "faq" that actually changed something.

All they did was neuter Genius/Bomb even though it is perfectly in the rules to work (more picking at their choice to effectively "ban" things instead of proper rules than i am sad about the combo to go) and state a few things we already knew by looking at the rules.

Taroni: 0 is a valid number when removing "all" - we know this from several other rules, not even just in xwing, ffg as a whole love doing that.
Harpooned!: Crits that are cancelled do trigger it - this shocked me, i fully expected that to be removed because it feels like such a massive loophole in the timing windows to allow it. While fully legal/legit, it felt wonky as heck to do it.

The only other actual rule change of note i see is Lightning Reflexes .. for some reason .. applies the stress BEFORE adv slam, DESPITE there being a paragraph specifically stating any "after maneuver" effects when doing a SLAM happen at the same time of Adv Slam, yet LR stresses first now? wat? Was anyone actually doing this with gunboats? I thought about it, but they really dont need it.
