Lightweight Frame on TIE Phantom

By Skeether, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just curious how LWF would work on a Phantom that cloaks in game. LWF is legal when the round starts because the Phantom's starting agility value is 2 but then becomes 4 once cloaked.

I think it would work just because it only happens mid-game and doesn't say anything about discarding it if something changes mid-game.

Not that this would be super powerful on them but I was just wondering about maybe a generic taking that instead of ACD.

Cloaking does not make your agility value 4, it merely gives you 2 additional defense dice. It has no conflict with LWF, except keeping it from triggering, unless you’re being attacked with 5+ dice.

What? You're attacking me with double-pumped Swarm Leader Nora Wexley with Finn, boosted by Jan Ors? Good thing my Cloaked Phantom at Range 3 is hiding behind a rock with Light Weight Frame...

This is incorrect.

Being cloaked increases your agility by 2. This doesn't do anything to LWF, it can still activate if you're being attacked with 5 or more dice (or fewer, if another effect is also decreasing your agility).

It also means that those two extra dice from cloaking can be removed by "reduce your agility" effects (for example in a bizzare edge case where you have five tractor tokens), whilst lightweight frame can't.

Lightweight Frame is always 'on' - you don't trigger it or discard it at the start of a round, instead it's always in play, but you check to see if you actually get to roll the extra die on an attack-by-attack basis.

If a TIE phantom is attacked by a two dice attack then a three dice attack, it will get the bonus die for lightweight frame against the second but not the first.

A cloaked phantom would work the same - you roll 4 dice, so if you are being attacked by 4 dice or less, it does nothing. If you are attacked by five, you'll get a bonus die

Generally, upgrades with a restriction for equipping them are not removed from a ship which no longer meets that requirement in gameplay.

For example, discarding R2-D6 with Integrated Astromech doesn't discard the Elite upgrade it allowed the X-Wing to equip, or a ship with Black One being dropped to PS 0 from the crit doesn't cause the ship to lose access to Black One.

When you're cloaked with Lightweight Frame, it'll be rare for you to be able to trigger its effect (there probably won't be more red dice than green), but it doesn't unequip.
