My Vader list.

By Browncoat50, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I recently placed 4th in a store tournament and won some store credit. I decided to finally buy a tie advanced since I've come to the conclusion that I am an imperial player at heart. So here is the next list i want to try. Please give me some help since I haven't flow Vader yet and want to be sure I'm not screwing it up.

Darth Vader: VI, EU, X/1 title, Adv Targeting Computer (35)

Inquisitor: PTL, AT, Title, Harpoon Missiles (35)

Rho Squadron Pilot: Dead eye, Harpoon Missiles, proton torpedoes, LRS (30).

I know inquisitor does well with prockets, but with Harpooned I want to steer clear of range 1 bubbles. And rhocan potentially follow up harpoon with crit guarantee torpedoes and then reload. And Vader gets a free crit on target lock.

Seems fun, but not sure how competitive

So, your Vader and Inky builds are excellent in and of themselves. Nothing really to be said there - they are a little fragile, as they are aces, but not bad at all, when it comes down to it. And those are excellent pilots.

Now, with the Rho - I would ditch the Protons to get the title for sure. M a y b e Adv. SLAM instead of LRS. Also PTL. I really like PTL Rhos. They have very reliable shots/SLAMs/Reloads.

I would run PTLRho, but I don't have the points for that and adv slam. I just figured id be able to space out my reloads giving me more opportunity to throw 4 red dice before going disabled

My Vader list consists of the same Vader, but with two Rho's with PTL, Harpoons, Os-1 Titles and Adv Slam. If I'm flying Rho's, this is the configuration I use. It is a little less fragile than an Inquisitor list, has a better alpha, can reliably trigger Harpoon's condition, and has a 1-point bid to boot.

I like that a lot, I just only have 1 gunnoat right now

I don't quite like the Gunboat. A large part of the strength of Deadeye is that you can skip LRS for Guidance Chips. I think the Proton Torpedos are of low value, and I'd drop them to get a Cruise Missile for Vader, and 1 point of bid. *edit* Or just move the Harpoons to Vader, and have a Proton Torpedo Rho! */edit*

If you wanted to go a step further, take a second Cruise instead of 1 of the two Harpoons, you could fit in Flechette Torpedos on the Rho. I don't know if that'd be good. However, it'd give you the opportunity to just toss a stress out at a useful time, and a 3-dice shot at range 2-3. Going from 2 to 3 dice at the cost of a focus action is worth it, particularly with Guidance Chips.

I actually really like the thought of Flechette on Deadeye Rhos. Hadn't thought of them before now, but I think that'd add a fair amount of value for just 2 points...

*edit* I think the reason I'm not super into Protons is that you've already got Harpoons. They're kinda too similar? Taking just Proton Torpedoes doesn't seem bad, but spending 8 points on Missiles and Torpedos with a ship which reloads seems excessive. Going for 6... well, I might be able to justify it.
