protecting your Games

By 00Ripley00, in Runewars

i deffenitely am a fan of sleeves but sleeves can get rather expensive depending on how many games you have i think i spent over 1000 $ in sleeves for my games but dam well worth it.

I also suggest laminating any character card or whatever gets used alot to protect from wear and tear also been testing out a product i used in animation its a spray on dull varnish type substance ( fixative ) i used it to fix the led to the paper when i was working with pencil or chalk or charcoal etc and im testing it on Doom Board pieces and Descent Board Pieces so far seems to work well it does not add to the thickness of the piece so it does not fit but rather gets sucked into the cardboard and once you let it dry coat it again and done.

I also have seen descent map pieces mad out of Dental plaster looks wicked and am considering testing it

Protect your games folks :)

Hirst arts, is the company that makes those moulds. Post pics, if you do that.

I use trays from fishing tackle boxes to organize and protect stuff. works like a charm.

yes i use those as well but that does not gard against spills and wear and tear from playing

Interesting topic

I also thought about protecting the most used cards (fate, season, order)

especially the fate cards have to be touched and mixed constantly...

from my experience laminating cards makes shuffling them so much harder especially the 30 fate cards sad.gif

can someone recommend card sleeves for the 2 different card formats used in runewars? (right now I'm at work and can't check the size myself)

thx

Fantasy flight produce card protectors & the game's box art, shows which types & how many packs you would need for runewars.

2 of the green labeled "american card" size

4 of the yellow labeled "american mini-card" size.

Would be more than enough for every card in runewars. In practice 1 green & 2 yellow will be enough for all the decks which see a lot of shuffleing. {Fate deck, quest deck} The 4 order decks also experience excessive handling during play.

Well worth the cost when someone accidentally spills a beer/coke on the table. Not had the problem yet with runewars, but they saved me having to replace Battlestar Galatica.

I Agree with XAos i do believe that new FFG games have what type and how many on the back of the box such a usefull thing to know

Best way to protect your games is to have alot of them. That way you dont wear them out as fast.

Although the cards for RW seem pretty durable, I went ahead and sleeved all the small cards and the larger Quest cards. I used the ones made by FFG as they fit perfectly and are well made.

I put the Order cards in Top Loaders, which are larger and made of a harder plastic. This was definitely overkill, but the Order cards feel much more substantial when played. I did the same thing with the Character/Minion cards for War of the Ring.

Also, we always lay out a large piece of felt on the table before playing. It makes it easier to pick up cards from the table.

$1000 for sleeves? I just bought 500 sleeves for about $60....

8000 sleeves... that's a lot gran_risa.gif

Don't laminate cards that will be shuffled a lot. Sleeves work great for shuffling, just not riffle shuffles.

1) Make sure all cards are facing the same way.

2) Split the deck into two halves

3) Hold both halves loosely (one per hand), tilt one deck slightly, slide the tilted deck gently into the bottom side of the other one. They should separate themselves out and easily glide into place. The newer the sleeves, the more glide you get.

4) Repeat as desired. :)
