Question on Labyrinth of Ruin quest Ruinous Whispers

By Sadgit, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

The quest description on traveler objective tokens states:

"After moving at least 1 space, if a traveler ends its activation adjacent to a hero, the overlord may move the hero to any empty adjacent space. If no space is available, the hero suffers 1 fatigue."

If the traveler ends up adjacent to multiple heroes, can the OL move them all?

I think yes.

I would disagree, but more due to how inaccurate FFG's wording usually is ...

It states "adjacent to a hero", and may move " the hero" (emphasis mine). To me, this implies that you can only choose a single hero per traveler that ends adjacent to a hero.

I would expect that if the intent was for the OL to be able to move any and all heroes that the traveler ended adjacent to, it would say exactly that.

Having said all of the above, you, I, Zaltyre, and those that have put countless hours into this game are well aware how FFG is very poor, imprecise, and inconsistent when it comes to wording in their rules, card text, objective text, quest text, etc.

So, I guess I could be wrong. Barring any FAQ ruling (LOL ... it will be 2 years this Feb 15 when that last happened), I would play it as they can only move a single hero.

I think the best course of action, would be submit the question to FFG, so we can at least receive clarification via an e-mail (uFAQ).

I am playing LoR at the moment in an PBF and have to say rules on travelers are a mess.

We know:
Travelers block LOS.
Travelers do not block movement of heroes or monsters.
Travelers cannot move into spaces with other figures (uFAQ).

We do not know:
Are travelers considered to be figures?
Can travelers move through other travelers and/or end their activation on spaces with other travelers?
When a traveler ends his movement adjacent to multiple heroes, can the OL move all of those heroes or just one?

Looking at this logically (which already is a slippery slope with FFG rules) ...

I would make the argument that Travelers are consider figures. My most compelling reason to state this is as follows:

1) Travelers cannot move into spaces with other figures (uFAQ)
2) If they are figures, then two of them cannot occupy the same space at the same time

There is just so little in the game that allows two objects to occupy the same space at the same time (other than moving through objects), and even less that allow them to do so at the end of their activation. For that reason alone, I would rule that Travelers are figures.

Since they don't block movement of Heroes or Monsters, I would argue they would not block movement of themselves ... that is to say that they can move through themselves, but simply can't end their movement/activation in the same space as another traveler (remaining consistent with other core rules for Heroes, Monsters, etc.).

At least, barring any official ruling, this is how we play them. Once again, I would love to see you send an e-mail and see if you can get a uFAQ. I haven't been able to get any responses for the past 6+ months to mine.

I agree with you that travelers are most likely considered to be figures. However, if they are they can't move through each other, due to the uFAQ. Unless the "other" in the uFAQ is referring to figures other than travelers. Mmmmmh ... a mess.

I would agree that while not very clear, I think the uFAQ was meant to state that Travelers cannot move through other NON Traveler figures (such as Heroes, Monsters, etc.).
