Triggering harpooned with a harpoon?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Say something has harpooned!

Then dies from a harpoon missle...

It only triggers harpoon ed! Once right? Not the existing and the now...new harpooned!

When you trigger the Harpooned! condition, you must discard the card.

If the target die on the condition, the second thing on it doesn't work (the card is removed before).

A Harpooned! condition can't be applyed on a ship that's destroyed by the attack (it's assign after the attack is completed, so after step 10 where you remove the ship) except if there still unactive ship at the same PS on the table.

From the rulebook

Quote
  1. SIMULTANEOUS ATTACK RULE

During the Combat phase, all ships with a pilot skill value equal to the active ship have the opportunity
to attack before being destroyed. If a ship would be destroyed and it has the same pilot skill value as the active ship but has
not had an opportunity to attack yet, it is not destroyed. Instead, it retains its Damage cards and continues to function as normal, suffering any effects on its Damage cards. After it has had its opportunity to attack, it is destroyed and removed from the play area.

So in that case : it trigger the condition of the first card, remove it, then apply the second condition. After all simultaneous attacks are resolve, the ship is destroyed, and the the second condition card kicks in.

can->can't for the negation, sorry

Arguably no, the second Harpooned is not applied - the trigger for its application occurs, but the resolution is 'after the attack has resolved'. This is a new wording without a defined timing, and the designers may have intended it to resolve after any destroyed ships would be removed, so as to avoid exactly this situation occurring.

It needs FAQing to clarify their intent.

How i play it with me mates,

- harpoon shot and hit a craft: result harpoon condition .

8 hitpoint ship: -4 = 4 hps left + cond

- second harpoon flies off.... hits... eg: 4 dice: 3 hits 1 crit. - 1 evaded

second missile -2 normal HP -1 crit HP

1hp left:

harpoon cond triggers because off the HIT CRIT

all in range 1: 1 damage +DISCARD HARPOONED + you get one facedown damage

We think that all above mentioned steps are during attack resolution .

0 hps left, boum!

No second harpoon condition because ur dead at "attack resolution".

- it's just to nasty to get the second condition running before the full effects off the attack resolves. if you were to have more hullpoints left.. then you'd have two conditions running. If you didn't get hit by a crit, that is. And when that resolves, upon death: 2 damage range 1. and 2 crit explosions if you were to get one crit on it. Resulting in 2 crit resolutions...; bloddy hard and nasty. (just go bump into enemies)

END ....

If you were to die from a NON-CRIT-shot, bearing a harpoon in your hull, use the second clause on the card : you : deal all in rage 1 1 dam. You are dead at "attack resolution" step, so no new condition

END ....

If you were to die from a crit on the last HP when harpooned, you resolve the condition: all 1 damage in range 1 + remove condition card. Since you have no HP left you can't complete the 1 facedown damage (but in tournaments you should take it from the deck). You are destroyed at the "after resolving combat step" so the second harpoon didn't give a condition.

END...

/sarcasm

and then we make them eat their harpoon cards if they wanted to add, even more, damage to a hard hitting toy

/sarcasm off

now re-reading all to see if i typed correct.
