I am in the process of acquiring a Raider reprint so I can start playing Epic as the Imperials. I have multiples of most of the small base Imperial ships and was wondering how I should build my team (keeping in mind the new restrictions on # of specific ships, upgrades, and secondary weapons) for epic that don't translate well to 100/6 format.

I have

4x TIE Interceptors

8x TIE Fighters

2x TIE Advanced

2x TIE Advanced Prototype

4x TIE Bombers

3x TIE Defenders

4x TIE Aggressors (don't ask lol)

3x Gunboats

2x TIE Punishers

2x TIE Strikers

1x TIE Phantom

I started these threads awhile back:

Check out the benchmark raider thread here in the epic section that rakyados started a few of us there builds in there.

Then bring jonus with unguided rockets and maybe lightweight frame to buff the hardpoint/missile attacks

After that I like to bring as many ps2 3attacks as I can. Unguided rocket bombers/aggressors fit here at 18-20pts. Ps2 tie advanced with ATC is close enough.

Ps2 gunboats with mangler flechette and advanced slam come to 27pts each if you can spare the expense.

These are your support to keep troublemakers off the raiders butt or, if available, just help focus fire with the raider

PS 2, interesting. Is there a particular reason, or do you just happen to like the ships that are PS 2?

I really like PS 1 ships like the Imperial Trainee (TIE striker), Alpha Squadron Pilot (TIE interceptor), and Delta Squadron Pilot (TIE defender). And of course, a big block of Academy Pilots (TIE fighter) can be a great tool if they don't fold to splash damage.

Don't get me wrong, I like PS 2 ships as well, but the PS 1 ships just call to me in Epic. Not criticizing, but I just thought that was interesting.

Uh I go ps2 because I found the ps2 selection for empire had the better mix of punch and health while being cheap enough. I don't own strikers, so my samples were academy tie (too squishy and low attack) alpha squadrons (decent punch but squish) delta squadron (cost too much for the volume of fire I like)

An argument could be made to run ps4 or 5 to match the corvette ps, but with swarm tactics/decoy/Roark around that just feels like an exercise in futility to me. If they really want the epic to shoot early it will. So better to have a lot of cheap capable ships around, and make sure you kill more of them than they get outta you.

Also ps2 lets you ps kill a croc which is hilarious to pull off.

So in Armada there are two versions of the Raider one built around black (ordnance) dice and one build around blue (ion) dice.

Raider I-class

Then, thematically with your fighters really they all need hyperdrives as there is no hanger on the Raider (except the one in a certain computer game). So this means from your list TIE/x1 Advanced with Accuracy Corrector and TIE/D Defenders with Ion Cannons. I usually go for the highest PS generics.

I often struggle with this. Sometimes I just go with whatever, but when I designed my Imperial Strike Force squad, it was based around the idea of a Gozanti carrying 4 TIE interceptors, along with hyperspace capable craft. I went with 3 TIE/x1's with Colonel Jendon, but I found that the TIE advanced with Advanced Targeting Computer do so much better with Howlrunner that I had to include her, even though it broke theme. Sigh.

Actually, considering that I have Tarkin on the Gozanti and the Emperor on the shuttle, theme is already pretty tenuous.

Not a big fan of ATC on generics but with Jendon that’s an interesting idea. What about Operations Specialist on the Lambda? The focus tokens are potentially more potent than the Howlrunner re-roll. Otherwise, I find Accuracy Corrector very efficient backed up with ordnance. I suppose thematically there could be an extra Gozanti just off the board for Howlrunner!

I tried Operations Specialist, but was underwhelmed. I love the card, but in this particular squad the TIE advanced have Opportunist (EDIT: not generics; Stele, Strom, and Alozen), take the focus action, and get target locks from the Gozanti and Jendon, so the Howlrunner reroll is essential. And Palpatine! Every game of that tournament I wished I had Palpatine instead of Operations Specialist. Part of that was because Opportunist makes the TIE advanced hit hard enough that Operations Specialist rarely activated.

I'm totally pretending this is the case! She also had Twin Ion Engine Mk II, so sometimes I pretend that the upgrade also gives her a hyperdrive.
