Do your Rules Questions get answered?

By emeraldbeacon, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Obviously, there are some issues in the game that are begging for an FAQ entry, or at least clarification on how cards interact. These forums are a great place to get basic answers, but some topics seem to fall into nearly endless debate (TLT + Harpoon, Leebo vs. ISYtDS, etc). I've been asking questions through the Rules Questions Link on a fairly regular basis, but it seems like I only very rarely get a reply... almost never, as of late. So I ask you folks... what's your experience on getting rules questions answered, from the developers?

  • How frequently do your questions get responses? Frequently, occasionally, never?
  • How long do responses usually take for you... days, weeks, months?
  • Is there some trick that you use to get questions answered more readily?

While they may sound official the answers you get may not turn out to be any better than what you'd get here. They aren't official until the hit errata or the FAQ and perhaps even worse they will sometimes change over time and depending on where the answer comes from.

They were answered fairly quickly two years ago. Now, I no longer get any replies, but I understand why. They are a few incidents where an email ruling was later contradicted by a FAQ and created bad PR. With the game getting ever bigger and with more players, I can see them taking recurring questions and then updating the FAQ later on.

Which is why I encourage people in my area who cannot agree about a ruling to post the question to FFG so that it gets addressed in a FAQ later on.

It really does depend on the question. If it's a question regarding a basic mechanic of the game, then you should probably get an answer fairly quickly. They like answering the easy ones.

If it's regarding a combination that poses a tricky synergy (like the ones you mentioned), then you may not get an email answer at all, as FFG will analyse the questions and create a FAQ entry if they deem it necessary.

Attending an official FFG event and asking a TO might give you an "interim" ruling, but it might not be considered "official", as even those have been known to be inaccurate and overruled by a FAQ update in the past.
