FFG and their Stealth Tournament Updates.

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So a new Tournament update for X-wing on 15th Jan 2018 and what was changed in red is literally there words "that" and "the" (I am not joking). <_<

The big one is well an update to Epic tournament rules. Nothing was marked in Red but some major changes such as requiring a a set of huge ships costing from 2-5 Epic points and reducing the numbers of the same ship to 8 for small ships and 4 for large ships. Also no more than 4 copies of a single upgrade secondary weapon or elite pilot talent can be used. So in a way Twin Laser Turrets were nerfed as you can't bring 5 or more of them.

Anyone else find FFG's updates to be slgihtly confusing at least for the parts that are in red (and all the parts that are not)

Let me get this straight:

After who knows how long they finally give Epic some attention both by opening a new subforum and by adapting the rules.

And the first reaction is that it sucks?

I for one am pleased. I would love to see Epic get more official support. I have a feeling we may finally get an epic play FAQ. Based on these new tournament rules it looks like they are finally trying to balance the format now that all three factions have an epic ship.

Ship and obstacle set up has been changed too.

What chnges are you seeing to those?

Nope , it is just wired about how they updated their tournament regulations . Just look at the red letters to indicate what has changed. One seems almost inconsequential, while the Epic one well has no red lettering so you can't really tell what was changed unless you compare the last one.

For reactions on the changes to Epic tournament that is best and already discussed on the Epic forums. Go there if you want to talk about that. This topic is more of a discussion on literally, that and the (as those were the only red letters found in the recent updates).

As I said, the changes are not highlighted so I am not surprised you had a hard time finding them. It basically makes any token from an X-wing product that can be used as an obstacle as an obstacle. As long as you don't include multiples of the same one. So those satellite tokens in the core set, you can now use one in epic.

lol no it doesn't

Each player places their three unique asteroids and/or debris cloud tokens next to the play
area to form a pool of six obstacles. The player with initiative chooses one of these
obstacles and places it into the play area. Then, the other player chooses one of the
remaining obstacles and places it into the play area. The players continue to alternate
until all six obstacles
have been placed. An obstacle cannot be placed at Range 1–2 of
any edge of the play area or at Range 1 of another obstacle.
Each player must include exactly three unique obstacle tokens of their choice in their squad.
Players must select these obstacles from the twelve asteroids included in the two core sets and
the six debris clouds included in the
YT-2400
and
VT-49 Decimator
expansion packs. A player
may not select two of the same asteroid or debris cloud
(from the text version).

Obstacles are placed range 1-2 from the sides now, instead of being allowed placed up to the side.

Pairs of obstacles can be placed at range 1 of others, instead of range 2.

Standard ships have to placed range 1 of the board edge, instead of 1-2.

None of those were ever rules. Obstacles have always been range 2 from any board edge, range 1 from other obstacles, and ships have always been within range 1 of the edge except for large bases which can stick out beyond that as long as a corner is in contact with the edge.

WTF, I can't fly my 12 GUNBOATS in Epic???

Screw you, FFG! I just finished buying those and I haven't even painted them yet!!!

Very triggered right now.

Buy 4 more, then fly 8 on opposing sides of the table :D

The worst part is that 12 would be legal for team epic, but it doesn't meet the minimum Epic points requirement...

I can see you haven't played much in the way of Epic Tournament play before...

For Epic, yeah they were. I have the old version of the Epic rules on my phone. Page 2-3 under Deployment Procedure. Normal ships could be range 1-2 of player edge. Two obstacles were placed within range of each other but at least 2 range from another cluster. There was no restriction for placing obstacles near board edges, just player edges. It's been changed now to look closer to standard games.

It's an awesome change, as well. The old rules were stupid, and usually just resulted in diamond patterns of obstacles as people tried to fit their pairs onto a 3x6 table.

You realize that the rules in epic were once different, right? Please say you’re trolling and not just blindly ignoring the whole epic world.

FTFY. Gunboats ahoy any other time.

No I'm just dumb. Sorry.

Well I actually meant to talk about the updates in general. For Epic discussion there was already a thread in the Epic subforum.

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/267816-new-tournament-regulations/

But I can understand why most of the conversation has been about the new Epic Tournament rules and not the new competitive standard tournament rules. After all there isn't much conversation with just " that " and " the "

Also @GreenDragoon did you sad face my post because you didn't like it? You are probably one of the many people that think the angry face on Facebook is the dislike button :D .
