Ship stands are wobbly and loose - suggestions?

By johncpatterson, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all,

I have just started amassing a large collection of Armada ships, and I have noticed that for at least half of the ships (not squadrons), they are quite loose and wobbly when connected to the stand.

Specifically, I'm referring to the connection between the rectangular base and the ship support fin/pole (the piece that connects the ship to the base). The support fin/pole fits into the stand just fine, and slides forward to theoretically "lock" the fin/pole to the base so they're not wobbly, but even after sliding it forward the connection is still pretty wobbly (and makes picking up the ship difficult when trying to move it). It's as if the ship can kind of tilt forward even in the "locked" position.

I've done a lot of forum searching, and I've found this to be a definite problem in X-Wing (where a lot of people use sticky/poster tack, tape, and/or clear nail polish to fix it), but I haven't seen any forum posts about Armada ships, hence why I'm posting this question. If there is a thread in the Armada forums that covers this topic, please feel free to post a link.

Thanks for the help, any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Small piece of masking tape on the bottom side of the stand gives it a bit more thickness and makes it a bit more stable. Can always add another layer. By far the easiest, most reversible and least permanent way to fix it.

I had the opposite problem when a bit of rain water got into my case and swelled up the card with the hull zones for a GR75. Now it is impossibly tight.

You need to increase the thickness of your hull zone card perhaps by a layer of paper or thin card underneath. Then when you click the fin into place it should be a tighter fit.

This is occurring with the cardboard bases inserted? That sounds like a string a terribad luck and I would consider contacting FFG support. Without the cardboard inserts they will not fit tightly however, and can do exactly as you describe in tilting forward.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful suggestions, they will help a ton! :)

The other suggestions will all work too, but just to throw out another option:

I have almost all of my bases and stands painted in black primer. The only ones I have this issue with are the unprimed ones. So priming your whole collection's worth of bases and stands would probably remediate this issue if that's something you're interested in doing.

It took all of like half an hour for me to do the initial painting of the whole collection: laid them all out on a sheet on the back porch and sprayed them all, waited for them dry, flipped them over, and did it again. Looks nice and no more wobbling.

Thanks Ardaedhel, I was planning on doing that in the near future too! Some of the pictures I've seen of the black bases and stands are really nice looking :)

I did the same as Ard, except red or blue for Rebel and Imperial. My problem is now that the flotilla stands don’t fit until I shave the paint off that bottom tab
