TIE/D

Considering the /D is roughly 1-2 pt too expensive would an inbuild VI = 2 PS-boost on the /D title be just about right?

Then we would see a PS 12 Rexler with ion double-tap... The perfect Nym counter. But for the sake of the game, I don't want to see this.

*raises hand* I do

Everyone knows I like the D there's no denying its weak defensively but if you can hit hard enough that first turn and one shot an enemy ship that tends to be less of an issue.

I like tractor it's cheap and can cripple a ships agility, sadly the new jamming beam at 1-2 is crap in comparison why they made it like that baffles me there's no platform that can really make good use of it.

I think they can lift the 3 point restriction without breaking the game it's not like you can spam D's with HLC.

True, but then again, even one D with HLC would be an absolutely devastating weapons platform. Consider: Vessery with Expertise, TIE/D, and HLC could fit in a list with two Harpoon, crack shot Rhos with LRS. Unless you were able to snipe Vessery (theoretically possible since he's only PS6) that thing would hit like a ton of bricks.

EDIT: or, heck, roll out Rexler with the same loadout for two points more. He'd still be a strong candidate to get sniped at PS8 but if he lived for even a turn he'd do some serious killin'

Super Defenders FTW

Still would be expensive; what about if you made it so that either a 3 point missile or cannon could allow another attack? That way you could equip Cruise Missiles and not feel like you're wasting points.

I like the direction you're going, but I don't know if it would see use much since the Defender only has one missile slot. On top of that, Defenders aren't likely to be the high PS ship on the board in the current meta and don't have the action economy to stack TL/focus to make that one-time double attack worthwhile.

But...what if you just created a new title, zero points, that gave the TIE/D ability, but with missiles, and added a second missile slot? That could be pretty interesting, I think. Would that be too powerful with unguided rockets, giving the Defender two 3-dice attacks per turn? Someone would have to do the math. You could run three Deltas and put out 18 dice a turn, but since unguided rockets can only be modified with focus and since the Deltas wouldn't have any way to stack actions, I don't know that that would be too game-breaking. I dunno.

Unguided rockets are so much fun; they remind me of the base cluster missiles from Rogue Squadron and I think they would be cool on a Defender as an alternative to running them with cannons.

Worse than the 4 attack base ghost that can fire a turret on top? that things got 16 hit points to the defenders 6.

It'd be the ultimate glass cannon.

My dream scenario would be that they had switched the cost of the X7 and /D titles.

X7 would still be a great effect for its price and /D would likely see use on more than than Vessery

Yes, swap the cost and lose the squad point restriction so the TIE/D hits really hard with an HLC.

You can fly TIE/D s, and they're even really good against some things, but you better be really good at predicting moves. Really good.

Once you start hitting with the Ions, this is much easier.

The hard part isn't predicting after you've ioned something, it's predicting during the opening engagement so you have a few health points leftover when the supporting ship(s) pound on the Defender as it works over the ionized ship. You don't get a lot of chances to hit the sweet spot where you get to deliver a telling blow and still avoid the worst of the opponent's firepower.

Expertise /Ds are just plain fun to fly.

With the current pricing, i think TIE/D is overcosted.

But I get the fear of FFG of letting a ship with AG3 to throw 6-7 attack dice consistently. So any cannon could be too much.

fully agree, i was joking/being bitter about power creep bull. the defender was perfectly priced until Jumps made things supid

Casual game, but managed a win against Nym-randa with 3x Deltas I'd never flown before. All TIE Mk. II, one each with Tractor Beam, Flechette Cannon, Ion Cannon. A good deal of luck, but these ships certainly have something going for them. I think I might have flown Ion TIE/D once previously.
