Early Warning System

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

Revealed in the Chimaera unboxing video.

Defensive retro, 7 pts.

Start of round you pick 1 hull zone, and that hull zone basically gets obstructed.

Potentially powerful, esp vs squadrons (in particular those that are slower) and multiple smaller attacks.

Will it be a thing?

I certainly would have liked to try it in my Vader Cymoon build (with Tua).

Discuss.

For me it will best work on Superior position. Ride to your opponent with kuat imperial, turn on chaffs and get to that damned rebel cariers

Its going to see a ton of play I think.

This is a good point. It is a sorta counter to Superior Positions.

I can see it on HMC80 Assault, but that's because I can also throw in ECM.

When you warp in a ship with Raddus... THAT"S a really good time to activate it, since you KNOW an enemy can shoot you on a specific side.

I like the cut of your jib.

This is going to be a really good upgrade.

Did someone say counterplay to squadrons?

Anti-Yav tool

Does the new doom pickle build have this and hardened bulkheads.

great even if its just preventing enemy squads from gathering and waiting in projected flight path and shoot in squad phase. Nope.

Forces them to move further „behind“ my ship and maybe then not being able to catch up in the next turn when Admo zooms away speed 4.

Maybe I am deluded, but for that defensive Admo spot I think its great

Depends.

If its a Command it can have both, but then it has no ECM.

If its an Assault, it can have EWS & ECM, but no Bulkheads.

Yeah I thought it was a defensive retrofit at first. Doh. But a command cruiser as a cheaper doom pickle is no bad thing.

Yep, now there are those distinct choices...

Your enemy is mostly big ship shots? ECM.

Your enemy is mostly Bomber based? EWS.

Your enemy is a little bit of both?? RBD.

A potential solution for every problem.

RBD is 3 hull damage: you have to survive to use it. And you're on last legs at that point. If its bomber based damage (from "both") a Bwing can easily roll out 3 dmg via toryn and BCC. Even then, lets say it gets unlucky and ONLY managed 2 hits. That mitigates your 5 pt RBD for just a single attack of a single Bwing, on one single turn, not even including the 2-3 turns after that you might get shot again. RBD seems to really not be that great for this.
(This even assumes no Yavaris and no Adar and no Norra).

Advanced Projectors on the other hand? Can send 6-8+ damage to other shields vs bombers, and likely also vs other ship not taking intel or xi7.

But but, I want EWS, ECM, RBD and AP. And I want Bulkheads. And at least 2 officers!

me too. but if I had to pick one would probably be ecm or rbd... ill have to see EWS on the table still... but intel bombers just fly to the other arc don't they?> theoretically though, if you trashed their intel and locked em down single dice bombers cant attack you lol. still you better not be then engaging heavy hitters that lock down your brace or it becomes robbing peter to pay paul...

The only issue i see here (and for most rebels) is that with the arcs running to the corners - normally a good thing- it will be a lot easier for bombers to reach an unobstructed side. Small ships even more so. Whereas imperials jave big fat front arcs that go a long way back.

It's for my ISD. Makes freeloading in the front arc less appealing. Plus protects vs early Sloane token stripping - if they want to play they gotta go into those overlapping aa fields.

This is an MC30 upgrade. No other ship needs damage prevention more, has a usually-empty defensive retro slot, and is worth the investment.

Strongly considering trying a pivot to Cracken + EWS spam for the MC30 swarm.

Cracken and EWS don't stack. They're both obstruction effects.

Really? You'd take this over cluster bombs? Huh.

Brb, taking another look at Ackbar Scouts.

If only you could be double obstructed... It's nice for when you have to slow down though, I like it. Definitely gonna try this out.
