I apologize for asking this if the answer has already been listed elsewhere, but can you play dupes on unique shadow characters? If yes, can you play the dupe from your hand or must it come from the shadows? Is it even legal to put a copy of a unique shadow character you already have out in play into the shadows? If a dupe can come out of the shadows, would I have to pay the gold cost or does it come out for free since it's a dupe?

The dupe can be played directly onto the other copy of the card even if the duplicate card has the Shadows crest. It does not have to go through Shadows - although it can if you want it to.

You'd still have to pay the 2 to put it into Shadows and you would still need to pay the "non-s" part of the cost to bring it out of Shadows. It would enter play as a dupe, not the character, though (an important point for cards like Varys). It is not the most cost-efficient way to dupe a card, although sometimes it is a good thing to have extra cards in Shadows.

Thanks ktom. I asked about playing a dupe through Shadows because it might be beneficial if you're playing the Shadows Agenda.
